I spoke to a college friend a few weeks ago. He was in the invasion in ‘03. He told the the ROE was pretty much “If they were holding a gun, shoot them.”
He went back in ‘07. He told me the ROE had changed so much that his troops were afraid to engage the enemy because of the legal issues that defined the “present danger.” He said it was just crazy.

I read some of the reader comments about this news announcement. It makes me sick to my stomach. The typical liberal response is to blame Bush for creating ISIS and to make excuses for the radical jihadi element in Islam. I don’t care how or why this group came into being. All I care about now is destroying them. It is a truly an evil organization. Any person who kills someone like that is also an evil person. No excuses, no explanations allowed. These people must die. We should be merciless in our air campaign and any special forces strikes that we should undertake.
Unfortunately, I have little confidence that the people in charge will do that. They will probably just do some more half-measures and it will only prolong the agony over there.

No American elected official could have remained in office with a policy of continued troop strength in Iraq.
