A Vietnam veteran and former Green Beret who was on the St. Louis police force for 35 years was forced into retirement after liberal news outlet CNN unearthed a video in which he spoke about President Obama and the direction of America.
Sgt. Maj. Dan Page (Ret.) spoke to the St. Louis/St. Charles division of the Oath Keepers in April of this year, and the video of his speech made it to YouTube under the title The End of American Sovereignty & Constitutional Rights, which is harshly critical of President Obama, liberal judges, affirmative action, and notes that the Declaration of Independence gives Americans the right to overthrow the government, according to the Washington Post.

It’s all part of the modern “Depravity Inquisition.” They’ll strive to destroy anybody who doesn’t embrace the depravity du jour. They may allow some to recant. The rest must be at least figuratively burned at the stake. Give them the power they crave and it’ll no longer be “figuratively.”
I did a bit of math, here, figuring that when he left Vietnam, likely in 1975, he was a junior NCO about 25 years old and went into the Army Reserve, which is how he eventually became a Sergeant Major. About four years later he joined the St. Louis PD, after the police academy, assuming he was not an MP Green Beret. 35 years later he is 60 plus years old.
Oh, but I thought we had Freedom of Speech!
< / s> There has been no Freedom of Speech in this country for years.
Not sure about the cops but in the military there is a specific UCMJ article that is used in this regard “detriment of the service” or some such (been a while).
Your not allowed to do any political activity supporting a certain candidate or position while in uniform or identify yourself as military unless you are acting in a role that requires interaction such as a PAO or CO and then it must be apolitical.
Technically retirees are also under the same rule as they are on the retiree rolls - but they typically let it pass.
A contact at AFRICOM very adamantly stated that Page was never a CSM of, or with, AFRICOM. Sources are currently investigating just what role Page may have played in Djibouti. Trust me, when a bunch of Sergeant Majors get pissed off at someone making claims that arent true, you need to hide under a very large rock for a very long time. You should take that advice, Dan.
As more information comes in, I will present it to the public. Dan Page is a stolen valor dirtbag and should be publicly shamed for the rest of his life. That process will start here. Youre welcome.
Stay tuned for part two.

Correct. We’d have to see his employment agreement/handbook and the union contract he was employed under for specifics but I’d guarantee tyat there are clauses about presenting the appearance of speaking on behalf of the Department and speaking in manner that reflects negatively upon the Department.
There is a big difference between the military and police in this regard. There is a real need for the military to be apolitical and to not be seen as supporting one side over another. Police have never tried to be apolitical. Sheriff is an elected position, for heaven's sake! And police chiefs, police unions, etc., are always making political endorsements for candidates and ballot issues.
Unless the department can show that they have disciplined every officer making political statements of any kind, then they are guilty of viewpoint discrimination, which is a violation of the 1st Amendment rights of this officer.
I know for the military, federal, and state employees, there are limits on what you can do with respect to speaking engagements, or other gatherings (can't wear uniform to political rallies, etc...). I'm certain there are limits at the county/city level, as well.
Just asking, some of the wondering minds may want to know.;-)
Court cases...labor law and others....have set out that police and fire can be disciplined up to and a including termination for speech that the employer finds embarrassing to the organization even when that speech has been conducted off duty. This includes even when the employee does not wear their uniform or identify their employment status if it is easily found out by the public that they are employed as police and fire....aka google searches.

I no longer respect the courts.
