Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a threat to outgoing European Commission President Jose Manual Barroso that he could "take Kiev in two weeks" if he wanted, Italian media reports have said.
According to Italian newspaper La Repubblica, the Russian leader made the belligerent statement in a phone call with the outgoing EU leader, who is set to be replaced by Luxembourg's former prime minister Jean-Claude Juncker...
The Evil Empire is Back!
it never went away.......only mutated.
If the chinese and Russians get in league over energy.....the US better be prepared to open its own gas and oil reserves.
Great post and you are so correct!
I hope you are correct. But a mere 200 troops, er, personnel (prolly most are paper pushers), is nonsense. Make it 2,000 and I’ll give them some consideration. Make it 10,000 and I’ll admit I’m wrong!! 200 troops requires a some support group. So if 200 includes the support group, there’s prolly more like 75 troops. What’s the point. Purely political?
That’s another thing that gets me about the general obtuseness that permeates these threads. We are supposed to not “provoke” the Bear, respect his “backyard,” and all that . . . but allegedly we are not “surrendering” anything at all.
responding to Russian aggression is not “provoking”
My point is (and let’s stick to abstract blackboard theory for a second): it is silly to claim that party A has no interest in issue B, by arguing that party A is “provoking” party C by acting on issue B. If party C is somehow being forced to respond to party A, then by definition party A has an interest.
In my experience in dealing with the Roosians, there is only ONE thing they understand—STRENGTH! They respect strength! Anything less is perceived as weakness. I wonder how the US is being perceived. Hmmmmm.
So the Russians are invading Ukraine over oil?
The evil societal world of Putin’s Russia is easy to see. The evil financial world of the Rothchilds is not so easy to see. The hatred/conflict between the two worlds is not seen but is being felt around the world.
Did you read the quote?
Although Australia pulled out their large body of troops in December, these 200 “Special Forces” troops would be joining the 400 Australians still there.
Reagan blundered, he should have defeated the Afghans by arming the Soviets.
Then it would have helped us, as we wouldn't have to invade Afghan a second bloody time.
You are right, but the Sino-Soviet disputes run deep. I would be shocked, it they actually colluded on anything.
That is logical.
How come I wasn’t invited?

...” ONE thing they understandSTRENGTH! They respect strength! Anything less is perceived as weakness”....
Same with Ukrainians. ..and they are generally pretty brutal when they fight because they fight to “win”. Also with ISIS and all the Islamic groups.
I think many Ukrainians fighting this war haven’t a clue what they are fighting among themselves for anymore. The battle’s been lost in the politics of it all.
Good Lord you are an idiot, do you remember the Cold war at all?
The world was on the verge of death everyday, we didn’t foresee ever defeating the USSR, and we didn’t see anyway to avoid what had to happen eventually, either we and Europe were conquered at the loss of hundreds of millions of lives, or Total Global Thermonuclear War, and the following nuclear winter that might end all human life.
Electing the one man of history at the right moment, that could defeat the Soviet Union, was a fluke, a God send, and defeating the Soviet Army in Afghanistan was a HUGE part of that.
Ah, I raced passed that. Sorry. But still, I want to see significant numbers committed AND some measure of losses (most terrible and unfortunate, of course) to really assess the Australian commitment in this war. For example, sending 2,000 peacekeepers (not saying they did) is not a commitment, where they simply stand around without fear of combat.
Agreed. I fear that we really do not know the level of chaos on the ground, and even at the political level. Who’s on first, etc. I hope the Ukes have a clear focus, but I just do not know. But we should at least drop in small arms and anti-armor weapons. For some reason I don’t think the Uke armor can compete against the Russian Armor.
