It was always obvious what Obamas supporters wanted. They werent willing to settle for a Hillary, just another politician who would punch the clock, deliver tepid speeches and push their leftist agenda.
They wanted someone larger than life. A head made for Mount Rushmore and a body that would be cast in statues across the country. Speeches meant to be studied in classrooms for the next hundred years.
They compared him to JFK and Reagan. He was treated as the icon that his backers wanted him to be. His election was supposed to be a watershed moment in American history.
Instead it ends in miserable failure.
At home, Obama is caught in a desperate tug of war with Republicans. He won the budget battle by sending park rangers to shut down national monuments. His last ditch gamble for holding on to the Senate is using racial tensions in Ferguson to promote black voter turnout.
And if he wins, all hell have is what he has now.
This is how shoddy and tawdry the reality of Hope and Change has become. Trapped in a corner, Obama is dragging out the dirtiest Chicago politics. Hes trying to hold off the inevitable by using the same types of tactics that the crooked mayor of his hometown would.
Theres no inspiration here. No words that will resound across time. Just dirty rats on a sinking ship.
Blame Congress has become the new Blame Bush. ObamaCare is a slow motion disaster that requires constant course corrections to keep it from coming apart. Its not the new Social Security or Medicare. Its the new HMO; a clumsy construction that most Americans are unhappy with.
Obamas only power comes from his abuse of his authority, but what one man does, another man can undo. Instead of creating a lasting legislative legacy, Obamas executive orders and legislation by administration are a house of cards that his successor can topple with the same pen and phone.
They seem intimidating in the way that the actions of tyrants are, but tyranny can be undone with tyranny. What Obama failed to do was build a consensus. He didnt change the course of American history. He didnt win the hearts and minds of Americans. Now hes reduced to vandalizing America.
Obama said that Putins actions in Ukraine werent a sign of strength, but a sign of weakness. There is some truth to that. Putins economic policies have failed and he was unpopular at home. But the Obama tyrannical reign of phone and pen also isnt a sign of strength. Its a sign of weakness.
Like Putin, Obama has run out of options.
Unpopular with voters, shunned by his own party in battleground states, he rules by executive order and parties with influential executives while ignoring his responsibilities.
Thats not Reagan. Its not JFK. Its not even LBJ.
Stumbling to the microphone in a tan suit, he admits that he has no strategy for ISIS. Why should he? A few months ago he was calling a force that controls much of Iraq and Syria a junior varsity team while claiming credit for defeating Al Qaeda. Now his spokesman insists that the US is not at war with ISIS.
What Obama says has no relationship to reality. Its always been that way. Its only becoming obvious to those talking heads inside his media bubble now.
Obamas foreign policy consisted of a flowchart of how things were supposed to work. There was an arrow from Outreach to Reconciliation to New Middle East. Instead Iraq is on fire. Libya is on fire. Syria is on fire. Everyone else is either mocking him or begging for his help without seriously expecting him to do anything useful.
And the flowchart doesnt mention any of it.
ISIS was supposed to be a JV team. Iraqis are supposed to reconcile. ISIS isnt supposed to be at war with the United States. Like most ideologues, Obama confuses what his reading of the inevitable forces of history says should happen with what is actually happening. Political Islam was supposed to stabilize the Middle East. Instead the future will be defined by a clash between national armies and Islamist militias.
Removing US troops from Iraq was supposed to fix the problem. The best anti-colonialist scholarship said it would. Instead combined with the Arab Spring, it let Al Qaeda take over much of the country.
But what else was an ideological fanatic big on theory and short on life experience going to do?
Obama is Fareed Zakaria. Hes Thomas Friedman. Hes Paul Krugman. He read all the books and he talks a good game so that its easy to miss the fact that his ideas dont have much to do with real life.
Friedman babbling about the flattening world, Krugman pretending that money is infinite and Zakaria jumping from one ridiculous globalist idea to another sound good in a lecture hall or a column.
But only an idiot would actually listen to them.
Obamas speeches sounded good, but only idiots would elect a man with no life experience, no executive experience and no meaningful experience of any kind for speaking well, instead of doing well.
Of course Obama doesnt have a strategy for ISIS. Why would he?
ISIS wasnt supposed to happen. His schedule, in between golfing and fundraising, had amnesty and Global Warming unilateral orders penciled in. Putins invasion of Ukraine also wasnt on the schedule. Killing missile defense and being incredibly flexible were supposed to fix that.
As a last resort, sanctions, the universal failure of global diplomacy, were supposed to keep this from happening. But like everything else that Obama tried, they didnt work.
Obama doesnt live in the world of What is but the world of What should be. Inspiration does come from the world of What should be, but when it isnt grounded in the world of What is then it manifests as insanity or leads to miserable failures.
The difference between the brilliant architect and the lunatic on the street corner is that while both of them know What should be, only one of them knows What is.
Obamas inspiration came from What should be. He never did understand What is. His followers thought and think that What is can be waved away, ignored or beaten down as a last resort. That is what he is doing now with his executive orders and his unilateral rule. He is trying to salvage his miserable failure as a leader by forcing his way on the whole country.
It hasnt made him popular. It hasnt made his way into the American Way. It has isolated him. The American people have rejected him in poll after poll. Now the media is slowly accepting their verdict.
And no, he doesnt have a strategy for that.
Bingo!
Ping to the Knish blog list.
We post all of Daniel’s blogs but only occasionally his writing for American Spectator and etc. This article will probably be rewritten and posted on his blog. You may see it in modified form later this week.
In the meantime anyone who would like to receive all of Daniel’s blogs is welcome to request addition to his ping list. Please reply here or by FREEPmail.
And therein lies the question.
When Bill Clinton was elected, people from his past came out of the woodwork just to be associated with him. "The Boy from Hope, Arkansas" was a theme that was flogged to pieces. Daily, we saw media interviews with his Mama, his Sunday School teacher, the guy who pumped gas for his 3rd cousin 2x removed.
BO? Not so much. Where are his (liberal) professors from Harvard and Columbia? Especially in 2008 when he was the hottest thing going, they should have been elbowing each other out of the way to get to a microphone - "When I had him in English Lit 101, I know that Barry Soetero was something special."
Truly, it's the dog that didn't bark.
I agree with you.
I’m pretty much in agreement with that. It doesn’t have to be a full Manchurian Conspiracy to simply be a strategy to see how far they could get him.
I believe his mother had connections into certain circles - perhaps through the State Department. Someone took an early interest ... as if looking at O as a race horse in which to invest. HIs mentors are no mistake of fate, or Harvard, or Editor of the Law Review (but never wrote anything) - none of it is by chance. Including the whitewashed past.
Not a conspiracy, but a strategy, that worked.
I don’t think he’s called a single shot in his entire life. Never come up with a single idea on his own. He’s told what to do, and he’s sent out as an empty cartoon to deliver the action or message. The PR/Front Man man for a back office syndicate. Then it’s off to the golf course. His wife seems to disdain him when she has any interest at all.
A marionette, almost not worth the disdain we feel for him - because it’s not coming from him. I don’t think there is even enough depth to him for him to hate America. ... just out there readin’ the teleprompter to folks and collectin’ a paycheck.
I’m not amazed at all. I gave up arguing the fact here on FR that voting for Obama was the WRONG thing to do, after being flamed and bombarded with overstuffed replies of the “evil” ways of Romney. I can’t understand why some FReepers can’t give up the belief that voting for the traitor was the best choice.
Brilliant. Greenfield is absolutely brilliant.
Obama’s enemy is his American political opposition. His strategy is to flood America with Democrat voters, citizens or not, and sway elections with voter fraud. To him, absolute leftist control of America by Democrats and other radical leftists is the prize. He thought foreign policy would take care of itself. Community organizers don’t have an expertise on international relations-they live in a bubble where everything is local. He, and voters who refused to consider his credentials objectively, are going to the pay the price, as will we all.
Same here...
He may have been born an American, but it's an inarguable fact that he was not raised an American.
He was taught from his mother's knee to loathe freedom, to loathe all of Western Civilization and most of all to loathe this country.
The above is the good news... with little effort we an undo much of the crap Obama's done... BECAUSE he's done it with pen and phone...
That’s a very good point. Of course, we still have to get someone elected who is willing to reverse his policies, but at least it gives us a goal to work for.
Thanks for the link in post 3.

Very concise appraisal of a useless community organizer. When I was young I dwelt in the world of “What should be” and talked like an utter fool. Fortunately no one was stupid enough to try to elect me president and I grew out of it long before I was even old enough to run.
Welcome. Its a very significant article and it is an historical analysis that Winston Churchill could have written.
Even when given trillions of dollars, Obama was too incompetent to ever insure a proper budget was submitted to the Congress for approval in 2 terms, let alone in a timely fashion.
An incompetent executive.
I did not say that Obama was better than Mussolini. I said he had more in common with Mussolini than he has with Kennedy.
But we have to realize that Obama is a nationalist ( Black Power ethnic nationalism)and a socialist ( redistribution of wealth via Obama Care etc.), as was Musolini, who used different tools. That awarness among ordinary Americas would defeat not only Obama, but his entire movement.I would like to see that accompplished , very much.
Liberal Fascism is what Obama is all about. We need to root it out and destroy it.
Exactly! Precisely! Eureka! There is a major major problem with literally hardly ONE PERSON coming forward. There should have been classmates, professors, friends, even Chicago acquaintances and neighbors. All but a few random stories of people NOT remembering him there is nothing. Not one person has come forward saying anything about this man.
He is the ultimate empty suit. The disdain and anger should be directed at him in part. At any time he could have stood up, told us the truth, told the world who was pulling the strings and said enough! But, whoever or whatever group is pulling the strings should be found and destroyed. This “shadow” group is responsible for it all and is a danger to every person on Earth. You know, I really never used to buy into the whole NWO thing. But a world government is Satan’s end game. I’ve started to realize that with the information era in full gear, it really wouldn’t be that hard at all to change the world with unlimited resources, and evil men. Which Satan undoubtedly controls.
