LOL—that’s one piece of advice that the Kremlin will be sure to follow: don’t go in with overwhelming force, just take a piece here and there until you get what you want. The useful idiots on the internet won’t call it a “real” invasion.
I see nothing but underhand dealings, double crossings and selling out all the way around from all the players.
Unfortunately, the decent freedom loving citizens of Ukraine will be the losers.
I think they are trying to fight. But with possible behind the scenes sell outs/back door deals, their fighting is in vain.

Except that it’s the year 2014 and Putin is the democratically elected president of a constitutional republic. It isn’t the old Soviet Union anymore, the Cold War is over, and we won.
Yet the warmongers keep pretending the USSR is still around (or that Putin craves it) so they can re-open old wounds and this time drag NATO and the US into it.
Why would you side with the warmongers who want to use America like that? Do you really want this to go nuclear, and at our expense?

Nailed it right there — average people are being exploited as pawns by the ruling elite throughout all of this.

Very important point that I meant to comment on earlier. Keeping a country in a state of perpetual revolution is how commie/socialist dictators stay in power, because that way they look like they’re fighting the system on behalf of the little guy.

It’s not a good sign if that’s happening in Ukraine, because that would indicate a set-up for third world status by the ruling oligarchy. Ukraine would become the bitch of the EU and that’s where all their dirty polluting slave-wage manufacturing jobs would go.
I can see why one would hate Putin. Or at best would never trust him. I wouldn’t trust him either. Or Russia for that matter.
But a guy you and I voted for probably twice looked into Putin’s eyes and found trust. Words mean something. Say what you mean, mean.......blah blah.
I stand by my earlier post. The good people in Ukraine are between a rock and a hard place. There is so much lying, deceit and corruption all around them it’s an impossible fight. Almost sounds like what’s happening here to a lesser degree.
Bush was just trying to say something nice. If things between him and Putin were so lovey-dovey, then there would not have been a need for the “reset” button.
If you’re talking about Georgia in 2008, they clearly provoked the Russian Federation into an armed response, and the resulting “invasion & occupation” lasted all of a fortnight, until the situation calmed down.
You’ll have to come up with some better examples to convince me the modern Russians have imperialist ambitions.
Ukraine? Not Russia's fault.
Georgia? Not Russia's fault.
It goes on and on. And when the Russians invade their next neighbor, you will be here to tell us that it's not their fault, again. And remind us to break out of our Cold War mindset.
This was a very different Putin Bush met in 2001. Putin had just been installed to power and hadn’t solidified his grip to it yet. Oil was cheap in 2001 so Russia was poor. Putin needed to make a good impression on the president of the most powerful country in the word and acted his little heart out.
They got rid of the top sewer rat and Putin got upset or pretended to as a pretext
They needed a coup when the corrupt President orders soldiers to shoot protesters
EU didn’t invade. This is not about a coup or ethnic Russians this is about Russisn territorial expansion. Period.
