A trade group representing the fast-growing electronic cigarette industry is contesting a new government study that claims the largely unregulated products lead teens on a path to tobacco cigarette smoking.
The American Vaping Association blasted this weeks study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), describing the assertion as plain deceptive and calling for the papers retraction.
The industry posits that e-cigarettes can actually help smokers quit, though they are prohibited from marketing the devices as a cessation tool.
There is no evidence e-cigarettes are gateways to smoking, and in fact, for millions of Americans they are anti-tobacco protects, said Gregory Conley, the associations president.
The CDC report, issued earlier this week, found that more than 263,000 young people chose e-cigarettes when smoking for the first time last year, a threefold increase from 2011.
The vaping group, however, takes exception with the CDCs assertion that young people who use e-cigarettes are twice as likely to say theyre inclined to try conventional cigarettes than those who dont.
An analysis of the study concluded that teens who said they would probably not try cigarettes were counted as likely future smokers, the association said.
Even worse, the CDC failed to disclose this in its press release, which led to hundreds of news sources identifying e-cigarettes as a gateway to cigarettes, Conley said.
I use Mark 10 e-cigs.
I had to use Mark 10’s once. Expensive and they don’t last long. You might want to check on the larger battery operated e-cigs. You will save some money. Just a suggestion.
I also have blu e-cigs but they are more expensive than Mark 10. Both, however, are cheaper than cigs and they don’t kill you.
Source, backup, documentation or link???
I was just suggesting you find something else that would be better and save you some money. :)
I quit 14 years ago. When someone is walking and smoking a cigarette, I like to draft them. (NASCAR term)
There was a cartoon in The New Yorker some years ago.
Couple in a restaurant complaining to waiter-—”Waiter,the people at the next table are talking about smoking. Please ask them to stop.”
That kind of says it all.
.
No idea what you were exposed to, but it certainly was not an e-cig. I can use my e-cig in the car with my wife sitting right next to me. She is not bothered in the least. And she is one sensitive woman -- she suffers from just about every allergy known to man, and I suspect from a few more than aren't.
My adult son works for Vapor4Life in their “Smokeless Lounge,” so I get great vaping gear for every birthday, Christmas, Mothers’ Day, etc. :)
Problem is, I get “Vaper’s Tongue,” whatever juice I use I can’t taste it after awhile so I have to keep rotating, and I often make my own. I think it’s an age thing, as I’ve never heard of a younger adult getting it.
Now THAT’S an adventure! Easy after you get the hang of it though, as there are only four ingredients.
e-Cigs are disgusting and the air around them is as bad in their own way as the real things.
Maybe he/she was with someone smoking some weed.
I’ll check out Vapor4Life. Thanks.
You might try puffing from the corner of your mouth. I would get “Vaper’s tongue” so started doing that. (I’m 63).
How do you make your own juice?

LOL! Yep, they’re a weird bunch. Screw them.
It sure does.
Bathroom stalls were only made for one person.......
I love to be around people like you, I get a special satisfaction that I can vape without you even knowing.. lol I just hold in the vapor and you see nothing. At the end of the night you have no idea you were around and E Cig and end up looking foolish. Thats the nicest thing about E Ciggs, their use can be hidden very very easily.
I had mixed emotions when big tobacco gotten involved with e-cigarette’s. On one hand they can lobby and buy politicians. On the other hand their name is mud and they can’t be trusted. They lied almost as much as anti-smoking groups who tried to strangle ecigs in the crib. Government grants and six-figure salaries at a nonprofit funded by big pharmaceutical companies that compete with vaporizers is a nice gig. I can’t blame them.
The tobacco companies have hit a roadblock. Their disposable products suck. If anybody’s interested in using electronic cigarettes to quit smoking do yourself a favor and go into a brick and mortar Vapor shop in your neighborhood. Or do your research online before buying.
Do not buy the garbage from 7-Eleven that big tobacco companies sell. I’m not coming down off the mountain with the tablets with this one, everybody else has figured it out already.
Thanks.
The alphabet soup big pharmaceutical front groups and Government agencies won’t stop lying until a judge forces them to. I am not a fan of lawyers or lawsuits, but in this case there is no choice left but to sue the bastards.
I order my ecig (and attys) from www.totallywicked-eliquid.com I use the odyssey model, and I order my juice from diyflavorshack.com out of nevada. Haven’t had anything be as helpful to me in my life kicking the ciggy habit, wish I had never started, but always willing to help another get the monkey off their back.
Thanks very much, Enigo. I’ll check them out.
