The U.N. racism watchdog urged the United States on Friday to halt the excessive use of force by police after the fatal shooting of an unarmed black teenager by a white policeman touched off riots in Ferguson, Missouri.
Minorities, particularly African Americans, are victims of disparities, the U.N. Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) said after examining the U.S. record.
"Racial and ethnic discrimination remains a serious and persistent problem in all areas of life from de facto school segregation, access to health care and housing," Noureddine Amir, CERD committee vice chairman, told a news briefing.
Teenager Michael Brown was shot dead by a white police officer on Aug. 9, triggering violent protests that rocked Ferguson - a St. Louis suburb - and shone a global spotlight on the state of race relations in America.
"The excessive use of force by law enforcement officials against racial and ethnic minorities is an ongoing issue of concern and particularly in light of the shooting of Michael Brown," said Amir, an expert from Algeria....

Citing data gathered by the Bureau of Justices Statistics in 2008, the IACP [International Association of Chiefs of Police] said less than 2% of the 40 million people who had contact with police reported the use of force or threatened use of force.
"In large part, the public perception of police use of force is framed and influenced by the media depictions which present unrealistic and often outlandish representations of law enforcement and the policing profession," the group said in a 2012 report."
The article points out that there has never been a comprehensive effort to gather the data needed to prove one way or the other.
So the corrupt United Nothings join the victim's industry shouting "unrealistic and often outlandish" claims hoping to profit from each and every individual personal tragedy involving a black citizen and police.

None of that changes my original comment. We should have left the U.N. at least 40 years ago and let it rot. It's a complete failure at its stated purpose and has only served anti-American interests. I wonder how that could happen, don't you?.
I wonder if they would give even so much as a squeak when it turns out that the officer was defending his life?
Somehow I think even if they did we would never hear about it, racisim in the US is a very real and very profitable indistry but its not being run for whites.
