If owning a home was required to vote then a large portion of the population
wouldn’t qualify. Now that may not be all that bad.
I think it was Hamilton to wanted land ownership to be required to vote. In fact, I think it was originally “life, liberty and the pursuit of land”.
I think homeownership should be required at least to vote on property taxes.
The founders thought it was an excellent idea. You could not vote if you did not own property. Pretty simple idea and effective for keeping a republican government. As old Ben Franklin said to that woman, "A republic madam, if we can keep it."
