I used to be in a prison ministry band in 2000. Even back then I was amazed how many black prisoners were converting to Islam. And it was always black men.
The religion gives your life a tight structure, which they needed. And further, if you obey its rules, then if anything bad happens to you it’s not your fault or responsibility.
It’s actually the draw of Islam worldwide. It truly does thrive on the poor and low of character.
Prison conversions have been going on a lot longer than folks realize. Heck half the population(not just prison) is already there with no fault and no responsibility being laid at their feet. And, thank you for your ministry band doing God’s work.
it wasn't a blues band with some fat guy with a porkpie hat and wayfarers out of Chicago was it?
Very interesting perspective you must have. What do you mean by this comment?
OJ already has the hate and violence down. He should fit right into Islam.
How can we know about the evils of racism in America, Bill Cosby is/was one of the richest, most popular entertainers in America, Oprah is the richest woman in America, the voters elected a second time, America's first black President!
Yep, Islam preaches hatred of white Christian American society.
No wonder OJ is "converting," considering his impoverished bigoted status!
When prisoners accept Christ in prison it is with a sense of repentance, sorrow for what they had done and a conviction to accept responsibility for their past actions and turn their lives around.
When prisoners convert to islam in prison, there is no consideration of repentance. Islam gives them all the excuses they need to blame others for their plight, foment hatred (and violence), indulge their infantile sense of self esteem (such as it is) and demands for ‘respect’. The LAST thing islam will ask of them is to reconsider their past actions or take personal responsibility.
Even back then I was amazed how many black prisoners were converting to Islam...

Chuck Colson tried to warn people about that decades ago but it fell on deaf ears.
I was in the prison for 25 years, and I do not recall if I ever saw a white Muslim. There may have been some, I just do not remember seeing any. When I was in the USAF, I knew an E-6 who was a Muzzie from Pakistan. He told me he really did not consider American black Muslims, to be real Muslims, for whatever that is worth.
