RUSH: Remember the exit polling data in the 2012 presidential election. The first wave, and there was a question, that when I saw the results of the exit poll, I said this election is over and Romney's been beat and there's no hope. It was that well over 60 percent of people that voted blame Bush for the economy. Okay. This morning on the Fox Business Network, Opening Bell with Maria Bartiromo, Sandra Smith was filling in as hostette. She spoke with Fox Business Network overseas editor Ashley Webster, a male, about a new poll on American attitudes about the economy. Sandra Smith says, "We now turn to a new poll that shows that Americans are feeling more pessimistic about our economy now than they did right after the recession."
WEBSTER: A new survey by Rutgers University reveals that 71% of Americans believe the recession exerted a permanent drag on our economy. Now, this is far greater than another Rutgers survey taken all the way back in November 2009. That was just five months after the recession officially ended, showing only 49% thought the downturn would have lasting damage. More people, Sandra, believe the recession has permanently damaged this economy.
SMITH: Hmm. Maybe that's all the talk about the new normal.
RUSH: Right. Well, as usual, my friends, I am required to read the stitches between the fastball here. Why did I choose this sound bite? What is it about this sound bite that's so urgent that I wanted you to hear it? Well, right here it is. "Most people, Sandra, believe the recession has permanently damaged this economy." Who do most people blame for the recession? That would be George W. Bush.
Why do most people blame George W. Bush? Because the Democrats had literally no opposition for four or five years, maybe more, as they set this premise up. So even after six years of the Obama presidency with specific Obama policies, which have done great harm and damage to this economy, we have a poll here that says most people think Obama couldn't fix it 'cause it's permanent. That's how bad Bush's economy was.

RUSH: Now, on this poll where the recession's been a permanent drag, the Rutgers poll, you don't even find Obama's name. Obama is not mentioned in the poll questions. He's not mentioned in the results, even though it was his recession. But, no, this is the Bush economy, and it was so bad, it's now permanent. That's what many people think. Not even Obama could save us, folks, it's so bad what Bush did.

So do I. Especially that financial meltdown fiasco at the penultimate moment of a presidential campaign. And then it turned out to be wrong. If I understand correctly, they still haven’t spent the money it was critical to have or the world would melt and turn into a supernova.
That is definitely the other side of the coin. As such, it too makes sense.
The argument for it is that I've listened to them talk, and they really aren't that smart, but I've also detected that they think they are. They mistake access to closely held information as greater capability to handle that information.
The argument against it is that we out here in the hinterlands were screaming our bloody heads off their policy of not defending themselves was stupid and was killing us. No way they didn't hear those voices. Not only did they have to dismiss the voices, they also had to dismiss every rational indicator that those voices were correct...such as Bush's plunging ratings.
All of that is true .they heard the voices - and now Rove finally admits it was a mistake. Rush beat that out of him a couple years ago.
And don’t underestimate GWBush’s arrogance in this. Yes, ARROGANCE the misplaced arrogance that he was going to be the almighty martyr and fall on his sword - without realizing those were OUR swords and NOT HIS to fall on.
He learned the wrong lesson from the Dan Rather/National Guard false accusation. His martyrdom in that case had him come out smelling like a rose and appearing to be a victim.
What he didn't get is that PROOF and COUNTER-INTEL won that case for him. He didn't win because HE kept his mouth shut. The trenches (free republic, actually) finding irrefutable proof won that for him.
His silence would have sunk him. What he learned was that his silence would not keep the truth from eventually coming out. He should have learned that a lot of leg work proving his story correct was how the truth was found.
I don’t see it quite that way. He was into this whole “new tone” thing long before the National Guard story. And actually, that WAS his sword to fall on.
What was not was the way liberals attacked not only him, but conservative principles in general (yes, ironic ain’t it) - and his total lack of boldness and articulation on what our problems were. It was 8 years of capitulation to the liberal premise - then McCain did the same thing - and then Romney did the same thing. We’re a long long way removed from anyone on the national scene taking the message forward.
Bush and Rove gave us Obama. I’d be happy to send you my book that connects the dots.
Bush is the new Hoover for a generation of dummies.
What I’m saying is that the Dan Rather fiasco VALIDATED his rope-a-dope, in his mind. I don’t mean that it started it. That started at least with the search for WMDs.
Now, there’s no doubt that the establishment does not carry the conservative message forward. That’s because most of the party is from the GHWBush wing of the party. They fought Reagan every step of the way. The end of the acquiescence was when “read my lips” was violated with a tax hike. They then went back to their minority party mind set, and they like it. Not responsible for anything but able to gripe about everything. And they get the perks of the job.
6 years on the job and still not his fault. American voters who blame Bush are stupid.
There really is an astounding level of stupidity and ignorance exhibited by a large portion of the population.
