RUSH: Remember the exit polling data in the 2012 presidential election. The first wave, and there was a question, that when I saw the results of the exit poll, I said this election is over and Romney's been beat and there's no hope. It was that well over 60 percent of people that voted blame Bush for the economy. Okay. This morning on the Fox Business Network, Opening Bell with Maria Bartiromo, Sandra Smith was filling in as hostette. She spoke with Fox Business Network overseas editor Ashley Webster, a male, about a new poll on American attitudes about the economy. Sandra Smith says, "We now turn to a new poll that shows that Americans are feeling more pessimistic about our economy now than they did right after the recession."
WEBSTER: A new survey by Rutgers University reveals that 71% of Americans believe the recession exerted a permanent drag on our economy. Now, this is far greater than another Rutgers survey taken all the way back in November 2009. That was just five months after the recession officially ended, showing only 49% thought the downturn would have lasting damage. More people, Sandra, believe the recession has permanently damaged this economy.
SMITH: Hmm. Maybe that's all the talk about the new normal.
RUSH: Right. Well, as usual, my friends, I am required to read the stitches between the fastball here. Why did I choose this sound bite? What is it about this sound bite that's so urgent that I wanted you to hear it? Well, right here it is. "Most people, Sandra, believe the recession has permanently damaged this economy." Who do most people blame for the recession? That would be George W. Bush.
Why do most people blame George W. Bush? Because the Democrats had literally no opposition for four or five years, maybe more, as they set this premise up. So even after six years of the Obama presidency with specific Obama policies, which have done great harm and damage to this economy, we have a poll here that says most people think Obama couldn't fix it 'cause it's permanent. That's how bad Bush's economy was.

RUSH: Now, on this poll where the recession's been a permanent drag, the Rutgers poll, you don't even find Obama's name. Obama is not mentioned in the poll questions. He's not mentioned in the results, even though it was his recession. But, no, this is the Bush economy, and it was so bad, it's now permanent. That's what many people think. Not even Obama could save us, folks, it's so bad what Bush did.

Imagine the thrill the Leftist-Democrats must have experienced when they realized that Bush was not going to fight back, about anything.
After all, who’s remembered as being responsible for the Great Depression?
(Which led to 20 years of Democrat Presidents.)
Documentation File on the very successful Tyranny of Obamanation, as paid for by Speaker “Blank Check” Boehner.
It’s the same crap they believed during the Great Depression.
The first two and three years of Reagan it was Reagan’s economy and “Reaganomics”, but FDR get’s elected to 4 terms to fix the economy (yes, the war too.).
The Bush rope-a-dope strategy was the downfall of his administration, but more than that, it demoralized conservatives around the country.
What would it have hurt for him to argue that they did find WMDs sufficient to cause huge tragedy if in the hands of a terrorist. That they found recipes for WMDs. That they found precursors that even today are sealed off as dangerous, meaning that they were 10 years less old back then, so even MORE dangerous.
I was a Bushbot, but that was the dumbest strategy I’ve ever witnessed by a guy that I supported most of the time.
Bush = Emanuel Goldstein
Bush, Rove and that “new tone” crap. Bush didn’t defend himself, and then McCain in 08 and Romney Ryan in ‘12 AGREED that Bush was at fault.
That is still kicking our behind today! I covered this thoroughly in my book.
Will the Democrats blame Republicans for this recession after EIGHT years of Obama?
As I’ve aged (and gotten wiser..cough...cough), I can’t believe that Bush and his admin didn’t realize it was a dumb strategy. Their continuing it could only mean the results they achieved were what they intended.
Occam’s razor
I blame Mr. Bush for indirectly giving us Obama.
A party run by political consultants will be like that.
Bush had one of the worst communications offices in modern history.
Everything the Democrats threw at him stuck like glue.
They were caught flat footed constantly.
This not only damaged him but fostered the current meme against Republicans in general.
The GOPe in DC is no better in the communications department.
Nearly all “communications” are in the hands of the left; Bush had no better chance than Palin at getting a message out. As long as the left owns the “mainstream” media, every conservative candidate faces an uphill battle from Day One. Liberal Republicans will be OK (to give the appearance of bipartisanship)...
He still had the bully pulpit and did nothing whatsoever to counteract it.
Reagan did far better and without the internet.
the republicans could have corrected this by pointing out that reagan cured the Carter recession which was much worse. And other arguments. (like Obama’s been there 6 friggin years now)
But sadly to a be republican is to be the most cowardly, most afraid of ones shadow, chickench&t, on the entire earth.
Reagan could do better because there was still some impartiality in the press. Bush’s valid talking points simply weren’t aired; there is no way around that when so many people get their opinions from television.
I understand that conclusion, but I don’t adhere to it: and here’s why:
The bubble of Washington - and this includes the NY media centers - is suffocating. Reality does not seep in. It’s astonishing to watch. Moreover, Washington people have this “masters of the universe” complex, and most are not that smart - and yet they think themselves brilliant.
It was not intentional. It was just that stupid ..IMO .
Mr. Goebbles would be cheering and eating popcorn as he watches the Progressive machine leave its tank tracks across the landscape.
IMHO
Whats’ wrong with blaming Bush.
He toppled an ally—Saddam Hussein.
He instituted the Dep’t of Homeland Security and the TSA. Perfect tools for “Obama” to clamp down on dissent and any other form of freedom.
He doubled the budget of the Dep’t of “Education.”
He didn’t abolish the EPA.
He never said a word about ending fiat money.
He never lifted a finger or said a word about abolishing the IRS and the income tax.
He went into Afghanistan and Iraq with the aim of turning them into Enlightenment republics.
Speaking of recession (depression), has anyone else noticed the websites are getting more and more cluttered with ads and popups. Are businesses advertising more manically because business stinks? I really love those ones where you click the little “x” to close a popup, and a new popup or tab opens!
