A militant leader in Ukraine's eastern city of Donetsk has admitted that Russian soldiers are fighting among his forces in the insurgency. Alexander Zakharchenko, the prime minister of the so-called Donetsk People's Republic, told Russian media that between 3,000 and 4,000 Russian soldiers on leave from their posts have been fighting in the insurgency.

Russia has been pushing a little at a time to see what they can get away with for months now. It won’t be long before they drop all pretense and just take what they want how they want.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk has called for an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council and asked the international community to freeze the assets of Russia as Moscow launches a full-scale military invasion of south-east Ukraine using regular Russian army forces.

I think the pretense has worn really thin right now. I also think Putin has not been happy that the rebels couldn’t move the front without RUS soldiers doing the real fighting.

“It won’t be long before they drop all pretense and just take what they want how they want.”

If Russia openly invaded Ukraine at this point, they would be doing Ukraine a favor.

Winter is coming, the economy has collapsed, and the trees are already starting to turn.

How do you go for the lie that they are on vacation from their posts?

Some will defend this

“asking that all Russian assets be frozen until Russian troops are pulled back.”

Good luck with that. No, really...

Europe already wants this thing over, the Russian counter-sanctions are now inflicting real pain on economies already sliding into another recession, and at least two have said they won’t participate in any more sanctions against Russia. (Finland, Slovakia)

Russia’s rumored next round of counter-sanctions could cost
Germany 55,000 jobs by banning car imports from “Sanctioning nations”.

And we aren’t even up to the level of lowered gas exports, yet.

Ukraine has cried wolf about a “Russian Invasion!” so many times now that the Euros have tired of it.

A little tidbit I hadn't heard mentioned elsewhere.

Protesters try to burst into the Ukrainian Defense Ministry in Kiev on Aug. 28 as they rally to demand help for volunteer troops surrounded by pro-Russia militants in the small city of Izvaryne, a suburb of Donetsk.

cried wolf?

The Russians are invading Ukraine. They got tired of this “rebel” pretext, even with the influx of neo-nazi’s from Europe, and the regular Russian army has moved the front very fast since then.

They are not on vacation from their posts. The captured Russian soldiers say they were ordered there.

“The Russians are invading Ukraine”

If the Russians were openly invading Ukraine, we’d be talking about the Battle of Kiev right now. And the Battle of Lvov following that tonight.

Russia knows they can send in “Volunteers” in reasonable numbers now, because Obama and Europe are trying to distance themselves from the Kiev Regime (For a whole bunch of reasons, from economic to imagery), which has shot itself in the foot.

When Russia DIRECTED western Journalists to watch equipment going across the border, and the western reaction was mute, that should have been your first clue.

Yeah, the UN Security Council will put a stop to this, just like Obama said they would when Russia invaded Georgia.

“Cried wolf” is a relative term.

The Ukrainians have been claiming they have been invaded for months (and they have been) but the media (here) has been covering this up for the most part to shield the Boy King. The Euros also don’t want a full blown conflict with Russia so they too have been turning a blind eye.

Putin knows all this and has been using this, what amounts to Ukraine “crying wolf”, to his advantage. Again, he’s playing chess while Obama is playing checkers.

It’s going to get a lot messier before any better (if ever). Wars have started for a lot, lot less.

My Theory of how all this ends since the begging of this crisis still stands.

We will end up with a "East/West Ukraine" Scenario.

The Russians will take everything East of the Dnieper River. How they will connect to Transnistria, I don't know.

But the Western Portion of Ukraine (including Volhynia, Podolia, Galicia) Will stay independent and forge closer relations with the West, maybe even join the European Union.
