Chinese-made U.S. military coins should be outlawed, Stilp says
PennLive ^ | August 26, 2014 | Jan Murphy

Learning that U.S. Navy commissioning coins were made in China is more than Middle Paxton Twp. resident Gene Stilp can tolerate.

The citizen activist doesn't like seeing the "Made in China" label on any product, knowing it signals the continued erosion of America's manufacturing base. But having the United States military buying Chinese-made commemorative coins is an insult to those who wear its uniforms, he said.

On Monday, Stilp asked U.S. Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa., to push for a federal law barring any branch of the military from buying collectible coins minted outside the nation's borders.

The Democratic state House candidate seeking the 104th District seat held by Republican Sue Helm is hopeful this is one bill that will break through the usual gridlock that stops Congress from moving bills.

The military coin thing is getting out of hand. We don’t need a federal law for something that shouldn’t come out of government funds in the first place. This has wormed its way over to federal service as well. It all needs to stop. Coins are not a government function, if they can’t go in a vending machine.

BTW, the US pays for the ENTIRE Chinese Military budget, through interest we pay to them on our debt.

That’s right: we pay enough for the ENTIRE Chinese military budget.

Plus, we pay for our own military.

Beside that, a few coins aren’t much to worry about...

Plus, we pay for our own military.

And lets not forget about our UN and NATO military obligations.

Maybe they just need to enforce the Buy American act?

Good point.

We built Red China up to serve as our factory, and now we’ll complain about something like this? Besides the interests payments on the debt, the trade imbalance is sending so much of Americans’ income to Red China that this theater carried on as bread & circuses for the masses (where our government pretends it isn’t in cahoots with their government, even staging saber-rattling demonstrations for public consumption) is laughable.

We have nothing to fear from our factory workers in the East; we have the same government. The open election of a communist here should have removed all doubts...

We have always been at war with Eastasia. Our bonds of peace and friendship will never be broken with Eastasia.

And luckily, our Recovery Summer has extended through fall and spring and winter, and back into summer; a few times now.

On that double plus good news, our chocolate ration has been increased from 8 ounces to 4 ounces.

Orwell's "1984" is near complete; 30 years late, but here just the same.

Hey, if Ralph Lauren can take all kinds of grief for bis American themed outfits for the Olympics, made in China, then there is no plausible reason for commemorative coins being made in China...

All the coins my unit ordered or that I have received were made in South Korea. Not aware of the ChiCom angle.

Hey! If we are to get coins made out of the states—have them made in Mexico—they make some great coins.
