Warren Buffett may be most famous for the billions of dollars he has made from investing, but he is also well known as a cheerleader for the United States. The Oracle of Omaha routinely exhorts investors to put their money in America, the mother lode of opportunity, as he wrote in his annual letter this year.
So Buffetts participation in fast-food chain Burger King Worldwide Inc.s purchase of coffee and doughnut chain Tim Hortons Inc.complete with relocation of Burger Kings domicile to Canadamight at first blush raise questions about his patriotism.
Investors and tax experts say Miami-based Burger Kings move to Canada through a so-called tax inversion will help curb its U.S. tax bill. Similar recent moves by other U.S. companiesmainly through the purchase of European companieshave drawn the ire of President Barack Obama, who suggested they are corporate deserters lacking economic patriotism.
But analysts and investors say that the Burger King deal underlines the market savvy thats helped him build his fortune more than prompting questions about his commitment to the U.S.

Ha! Now 0bama can retaliate by permitting the Keystone pipeline, taking biz away from Buffett’s BNSF.
Hey, it’s just a bus throw-under contest in the end.
No kidding. Uncle Teddybear likes to make money.
Using their logic, wouldn’t buying municipal bonds be considered unpatriotic?

Libs are patriotic? This does not compute, this does not compute....
Warren puts Brazilians ahead of Bammy.
How is capitalism unpatriotic? Buffett is just doing what is right for his business and, in doing so, shining a bright light on the errors of our tax code.
His patriotism has nothing to do with it. He always has the option of writing a check to the IRS if he feels the need.
Please, please, liberals CANNOT use the word patriotism.
Ever.
Putting money before country is unpatriotic. Take a walk through Arlington to see what others have been willing to pay.
The Dims always talk about The race to the bottom when conservatives talk about cutting corporate tax rates to keep and attract corporate investment and they are right.
Corporations will seek the most favorable tax rates available. It is their job to keep as much capital as possible for the company and their investors. Nothing is going to change that.
Bk is not even an American Comany. Why on earth should they feel any “loyalty” to America?
From a business standpoint it make sense but on the other hand, liberals upheld Buffet as a great liberal hero for signing on to a letter calling for more taxes.
I don’t have any issues with a smart move but I’m going to enjoy watching the liberals get another poke in the eye.
And Warren Buffet is Canadian.
The Canadians aren’t going to be happy when Buffett and the Brazilians at 3G Capital immediately start cutting 50% of their headquarters staff at Hortons, just like they did at Budweiser, Burger King and Heinz.
Any tax system that relies on “patriotism” is guaranteed to give an advantage to the unpatriotic.
Back in 2011 Obama awarded Warren Buffett the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Will Obama demand that Buffett return the medal?
Perhaps Obama could take the medal back, and then claim that he really meant to give it to Jimmy Buffett.
