An American man, believed to be fighting alongside Islamist militants in Syria, has been killed, the White House has confirmed.
A cousin of Douglas McCain told the BBC the US government called his mother to confirm his death on Monday.
McCain was found dead by Free Syrian Army fighters after a battle at the weekend, according to NBC.
The US government believes a small number of Americans have travelled to Syria to fight for extremist groups.
Senior US officials told broadcaster CNN Mr McCain was fighting for Islamic State (IS), which now controls large areas of Iraq and Syria. [snip] McCain was born in the US state of Minnesota and had moved to California with family

Newsflash ! These are NOT Americans ; AINOs - Americans in name only . Anyone found to have gone to fought for islamist jihad overseas should be totally stripped of their citizenship , regardless of where they were born or parental immigrant status . They should further be denied any re-entry into the Unites States ,without exception . And if any are caught sneaking back in ; automatic life in prison , at hard labor, building our much needed southern border WALL .

The guy was already in trouble with the law in the US - he’d already been arrested about 8 times; he wasn’t over there to improve himself ..
