I still get posts from my old boss (a member of AIPAC) and now serving in the California legislature who still loves Israel and votes Democrat, Democrat, Democrat. IS HE NUTS? But then he had a sign in his office that read “Hire the Irish before they hire you!” I used to think (as an Irish-American with absolutely no ties to Ireland) what the hell is he going on about? Was his family in Ireland prior to America, lol? A fine man but perhaps a little mixed up.

I really read that as sort of a backhanded compliment to the Irish.
Reading it as— if you don’t hire them, they are smart enough to end up hiring you???
Just my take on it....
