The federal government is spending nearly $1 million to create an online database that will track “misinformation” and hate speech on Twitter.

“This service could mitigate the diffusion of false and misleading ideas, detect hate speech and subversive propaganda [?], and assist in the preservation of open debate,” the grant said.
... “Truthy” claims to be non-partisan. However, the project’s lead investigator Filippo Menczer proclaims his support for numerous progressive advocacy groups, including President Barack Obama’s Organizing for Action, Moveon.org, Greenpeace, the Sierra Club, Amnesty International, and True Majority.
... The government-funded researchers hope that the public will use their tool in the future to report on other Twitter users.
“Truthy uses a sophisticated combination of text and data mining, social network analysis, and complex networks models,” the website adds. “To train our algorithms, we leverage crowdsourcing: we rely on users like you to flag injections of forged grass-roots activity. Therefore, click on the Truthy button when you see a suspicious meme!”

So watch your buzzwords, especially when announcing your “block parties”. Dont mention: Freedom, Constitution, 2A, FEMA, Supreme Court, Administration, Founding Fathers or Rule of Law. These are all “dog whistle” phrases for dangerous subversives donchaknow.
I stay away from Twitter and Facebook. Even a NASCAR driver lost his career because NASCAR objected to his mild comments.

Will the algorithm track all the lies coming from the administration? How about the hate speech directed to Christians, the Tea Party, etc.

I see all kinds of ways how what people post online can come back to haunt them. I foresee a time, for example, when insurance companies might employ some algorithm to determine if an insurance applicant might be a high risk based on what the applicant has posted online.
Or even based on their shopping habits (charging a six pack once too often and you might be a higher risk for drunk driving).
Likewise, could affect whether an employer might offer you a job or a promotion.
I also wonder if what you post might be twisted and used against you if arrested.
