The US has lodged a formal protest with Beijing after a Chinese fighter jet conducted a barrel roll "very, very close" over an American Navy plane this week, the Pentagon has said.
Rear Admiral John Kirby said the Chinese plane exposed its undercarriage to show that it was armed to the P-8 anti-submarine warfare aircraft during Monday's incident in international airspace near Japan.
He said the Chinese aircraft came within 30ft (9 metres) of the American plane, while the wing tips of the two aircraft were just 20ft apart.

Remember back in April 2001 when one of our intelligence plans was hit by a Chinese fighter jet, and forced to land in China? They called it the Hainan Island incident. The Chinese pilot lost his life when his plane crashed. The U.S. pilot Lt. Shane Osborn, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. I had forgotten all about this incident until I read this thread.

THANKFULLY China is a BACKWARD country and we will NEVER have to worry about them...or so I was lectured to that effect on THIS SITE several times over the past 5 years.
Of course the REALITY will be that we try engaging them in the Pacific, they sink one of our carriers and we simply “head home”, and our days as a world power are over. That’s one of the reasons we should be FRIENDS with Russia, not enemies, no matter how much the President wants to get our minds off of Healthcare and Illegal Immigration.
We are not "pivoting" anywhere, except to oblivion.
The Chinese, like the Russians, are vastly increasing their military spending while we are gutting ours.
The Chinese-Russian military buildup is not for parades and it isn't full of crappy equipment this time. It is real, with crack equipment and trained troops.
The Japanese, Aussies, New Zealand, Taiwan, and other Pacific allies know that Obama will not respond if China invades. He and Hagel cannot be trusted. The Poles, Germans, and Brits know the same if there is war in Europe.
The only reason Obama and Hagel spew this "Pivot to Asia" garbage is as a cover for gutting our military, abandoning Europe and the Middle East, and cutting old allies off at the knees.
