I don’t like drugs and I don’t think they should be legal, for a variety of reasons. But, c’mon... people drink alcohol PRIMARILY for the buzz. There is a whole spectrum of psycho-states between stone cold sober and falling-down drunk, and some of those states have their place in polite and responsible culture.

Clearly we didn’t invent alcoholic beverages for the flavour. Yep, people drink for the buzz. They may pretend otherwise, they may even delude themselves about it, but that’s what I think.
Not necessarily. Yeah the buzz is nice, but much like how we don’t eat army rations unless we have to taste matters. I have a large quantity of scotches (and tequilas... and beers... yeah I like booze) and pick between them for taste. And sometimes I just don’t pick, I have learned when the desire is purely buzz just looking at all that wonderful booze can be quite relaxing.
