I want to make sure after yesterday’s post that everyone knows it’s still in dispute whether Wilson’s eye socket was actually fractured in his altercation with Michael Brown.
What’s apparently not in dispute is that Wilson somehow emerged from the incident with part of his face swollen.
Reports that Ofc Darren Wilson had a bruised or fractured eye socket are false. #ferguson A source close to the investigation tells CNN

Wilson was taken to the hospital after the shooting. He had xrays which came back negative. He was treated for a swollen face. #ferguson

The extent of the injury matters insofar as the worse it is, the stronger Wilson’s defense will be that he reasonably feared serious injury from Brown when he allegedly charged at him. But it probably doesn’t matter that much: Obviously, the complexion of a case in which an unarmed man is shot dead changes if the defendant was attacked just moments before, especially if that attack involved going for the defendant’s gun. If the victim’s intent to harm is proved, establishing that Wilson’s fear of Brown was reasonable, then he’s one-third of the way to self-defense. He’d also have to show that Brown was advancing on him, a claim the prosecution will try to disprove, and further that Brown was so dangerous that Wilson was justified in using lethal force in bringing him down. Not an easy task given that Brown had no weapon of his own, but then that’s why the injury is important.

Yes they do. I saw one of the locals in Ferguson say they had a right to loot business, that it was their way of honoring Michael. Clearly, she felt she felt entitled.
RE: People keep saying its true but never provide a source. Please, if you know anything, provide a source.
There’s a simple way to determine the truth.... THE HOSPITAL.
If Officer Wilson was indeed punched and suffered any face wounds ( eye socket fractured or not ), the doctor treating him would know and the medical report can be subpoenad in court.
The first point is, why did someone with a weapon allow a threat to get close enough to him to damage his eyes? I know it's possible, but it seems strange since this was someone who was presenting as a threat.
More importantly, if Brown damaged his eye, they were in grappling distance. Those shots would be very short range,k virtually contact shots. It would seem the evidence on the scene would be very clear if that happened.
I don’t know if it’s accurate, but the reports said there was no gunpowder present on Brown’s wounds. In what scenario could Brown injure Wilson’s face, and be shot by Wilson without gunpowder on the wounds? Weird.
>> In what scenario could Brown injure Wilsons face, and be shot by Wilson without gunpowder on the wounds?
big boy Brown punches Wilson so hard that Wilson staggers back.
Brown himself takes a step back to assess the situation.
Now they’re 3 to 4 feet apart.
Wilson shoots Brown.
The reports, and alleged story from the cop is, he confronts Brown, who then reaches in vehicle and punches him, grappling for gun that goes off once. Then he backs away. Officer comes out, tells him to stop. Brown is now 20 to 30 feet away. Puts hands up and says, “ what you gonna shoot me?”. He then charges officer who shots multiple times. Explains the location, and lack of powder on Brown. We’ll see if the facts support this.
Recall that the so-called "independent" Baden autopsy -- the only one that has been released to the public, so far as I know -- was conducted without access to Brown's clothing.
No evidence of gunpowder was found on the body...but wouldn't the clothing be more likely to harbor such evidence?

“Would be” is not the same as “were”.
My understanding from what I have read is that Browns friend has told the cops that when Wilson tried to get out of his car Brown slammed him back in and reached inside and was beating the officer and then they grappled for the gun and it went off in the car but at that point nobody was injured from the weapon.
According to a friend of Wilson’s who called into a talk show the same set of events unfolded. Then Brown walked away about 35 ft before Wilson could get back out of the car and draw his weapon and tell Brown to freeze. Then Brown turned around and said some stuff and rushed at Wilson. That’s when he got shot multiple times.
I do not understand why the police dept has not released offcer Wilson’s description of the events. It seems very strange. And also a description of his injuries which they obviously know as the Asst Chief of police drove him to the hospital.
Maybe because Brown didn’t tell him he was going to hit the cop. He just hit him.
