When they talk about limited airstrikes, they place a great emphasis on the word limited, he said at the Heritage Foundation. Yet clearly, more airstrikes are necessary. Nothing less than a sustained air campaign to degrade and destroy ISIS forces is required. The Iraqi people are up against a terrorist Blitzkrieg that went practically unhindered for many weeks. Even though these killers have seen glimpses of our superior power and technology, they need to see a lot more of it.
He made clear that he believes increased support for Iraq means more boots on the ground in a country many Americans hoped the U.S. military was done protecting. Air power is a major part of it, but its also going to take more special operations, intelligence, and advisor support than weve offered so far, Perry said.
Perry, who is widely expected to run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016, began his remarks in a tone that evoked a campaign rally, lashing out at President Obama and his supporters.
He began by discussing the crisis on the Southern border, where tens of thousands of unaccompanied minors have crossed into the U.S. in the past year seeking asylum. But he quickly segued into the issue of ISIS by noting that the fighter shown beheading Foley in the groups video appears to have been an Englishman.
Foleys death, he said, is a preview of what ISIS wants to do in the U.S. And he suggested that ISIS might send its agents across the Southern border unless it is more adequately defended. How many other jihadists out there are carrying western passports? he asked. What missions might ISIS have for them?

acting like a president !!!
Well as a former air force pilot Rick at least has a clue about air strikes as opposed to the Choom In Chief sitting in the Whitehut or rather out on the golf course.
What southern border?
Just fixing the Mex-Tex border would be sufficient Mr. Indictee.
Let him ride this all the way into the WH.
Typical of Mumbles Perry to get it wrong. Not one more American should shed his/her blood for a people who hate us.
Perry's "boots on the ground" position is going to kill whatever slim prospects he had of getting the nomination and to that I say, good
And we should not rule out using neutron bombs to kill ISIS, their goats and camels, and anyone standing too close to them.
Yeah, boots on the ground is pretty much a campaign ender in America today.
We need to deal with Isis but we can provide arms and air cover for the Kurds and Iraqis which seems to give them the edge.
Exactly. Arm the Peshmerga and provide air support. No more dead Americans for a people who hate us.
You should think a bit before you cheer lead Perry’s grievous errors. Perry’s “boots on the ground” position could end his campaign before it even gets started. Less than 1 in 5 Americans approve of sending troops back into Iraq. It’s a losing campaign strategy. If Perry lacks the intellect to avoid making such boneheaded comments one would think his advisers would know better. Apparently not.
Rick who???
I am applauding his airstrikes strategy. I agree we don’t need to get boots back on the ground. I am hoping he backs off on that idea.
BTW I think Perry is referring to advisors etc and we always have CIA and special ops crawling all over the place. I don’t think he is advocating sending troops.
Maybe his kids are going to enlist. Or not.
You should do a little more research on your hero. He absolutely is for sending troops back into Iraq and has said so dating back as far as the 2012 presidential debates.
Perry: "I would send troops back into Iraq" ~January 8, 2012
Air power is a major part of it, but its also going to take more special operations, intelligence, and advisor support than weve offered so far, Perry said”
Just so we are accurate about what Rick Perry is saying today. He’s not calling for putting the troops back in.
Or maybe he is just a completely clueless dumbass who wants other peoples' kids to die for a people who hate us.
