Police is St. Louis Missouri have released video and audio recordings of the shooting on Tuesday of Kajieme Powell, a 25-year-old man described as "behaving erratically" and carrying a knife when officers arrived on the scene.

“They dont shoot to wound even when they are more than capable of doing so? “
Probably because that only works in movies, television, and the fantasy world of your imagination.
The impression I get from your posts is that you’ve never fired a handgun at a stationary target much less one that is moving around.
During training, I was on the receiving end of a “stun gun”. Far from dropping in convolutions like the ignorant expect from such a situation, I proceeded to fire 17 rounds into a target.
I’ll stick with writing programs in my dark corner of this office.
.
- I’m whatcha call a “sensitive” guy -
- I had left my carbine in the trunk of my convertible -
- I was threatened by a much bigger “Mikey” -
- Being a “sensitive” guy - I was sensitive to the fact that I could not reach my car and pull out my fully loaded Mossberg carbine before “Little Mikey” would act -
- So I swung my 16 pound sledgehammer and completely smashed his right foot
- Words and Treats have consequences - in an emergency a good stout ballpoint pen can make a handy little thing to be carrying - carry two - there’re cheap
I don't give a crap about that. Climbing trees with a chainsaw (what I do upon occasion) is over five times as hazardous as being a police officer. Fishing is ten times as hazardous. We don't pay tree climbers and fishermen $200,000 a year with early fat retirements to take those risks. You don't want the risk of that job, then do something else.
\ So you are saying you would want me to take a greater risk to my life than the law says I must.....I wont do that.
Fine. Quit. We'll find somebody who does.
Beanbags.
Listen to yourself. Beanbags?
The guy is nuts/high, and is approaching cops with deadly intent.
What’s the beanbag supposed to do? Ya fire six of them, now he’s pissed off more than he was.
“Very unlikely to hit arms or legs.
Officer Darren Wilson had no problem doing this. At least four shots to the arm.”
And you know that Wilson was aiming at Brown’s arms how, exactly?
Oh that’s right- you don’t.
Your pretense at understanding logical fallacies doesn’t seem to include the post hoc propter hoc fallacy that you employ here.
Problem with the Tazer, it doesn’t always work and they tell you during training that it works better on thin or muscular people than on fat people. Depending on which cartridge you have in the Tazer, it may or may not penetrate clothing or get caught up in their clothing, rendering it useless. Regardless of those facts, if you use a Tazer and it doesn’t work, which has happened to me several times, you may pay with your life. We were trained that if someone was coming at you with a knife you don’t use the Tazer, you use your firearm. Always one up over the assailant.
I went to an NRA firearms school to become a pistol/shotgun instructor. They always taught us the ‘21 foot’ rule, the reported minimum safe distance to keep from somebody armed with a knife.
They had someone stand 21 feet away from you and on the command, the individual, representing someone with a knife, charged the officer who was supposed to draw their handgun and fire two shots. Less than half the class could get to their gun and fire 2 shots before the man with the knife was on top of them. Very few were able to get their gun out, fire and manuever out of the way.
Now factor in a man with a knife who may have mental problems, be loaded up on drugs or both, along with the stress, coming at you at a sprint. Even if you hit them with rounds from your gun they may keep coming.
Sorry, I’m not going to chance it. I’m going to use my firearm and I am going to do my best to place my shots at center mass, hoping to hit something vital and knock them down. I don’t necessarily want them to die but I sure as hell don’t want to take the chance of dying either.
Anybody crazy enough to attack a cop, with or without a knife, is likely crazy enough to kill you.
.
- Long ago he US military quickly found that a .38 revolver was joke in the Phillipines when a drugged up savage charged a soldier -
- Suddenly the retired vintage Colt SAA .45 Long Colt revolver was back -
I remember when Pepper Spray was going to be the be all, end all. That junk didn’t work very well either.
Pepper spray? someone supposed to act in self-defense with a _condiment_?
LOL!
That'll curb his enthusiasm ...
***What about bean bag rounds fired from a shotgun?***
Bean bags is what got one of our border patrol agents killed when return fire was done with a HOLDER supplied FAST AND FURIOUS rifle.
“Nobody aims for the legs... youve been around here long enough to know that.”
A leg is a lot harder to hit than a torso, but a carefully placed leg shot (one that nicks the femoral artery) can still be fatal.
.
- some funny stuff on this thread -
- many believed movies & TV
- recall the bank robbery in California - police using PC handguns - thugs with Ak47s and heavy class 4 armor - LE had to go to gun shops and borrow deer rifles
“Bean bags is what got one of our border patrol agents killed when return fire was done with a HOLDER supplied FAST AND FURIOUS rifle.”
I don’t expect cops to routinely carry bean bag guns but they should be available to use based on the threat. In the hypothetical call to a ‘man wielding a knife’ maybe the second on scene would deploy the bean bag gun or other non-lethal means to subdue the dude.
.
- Try “Blue Glaser” cartridges - pretend the perp is a duck -
- No time for a “carefully placed shot”
“- No time for a carefully placed shot”
I understand that. If I were in a life-or-death situation I would certainly NOT be aiming for a leg.
I remember when Officer Hilary Cudnik of the Cleveland Police Dept. was shot and killed by Leonard Hughes, who was armed with an AR15.
There was a picture of Hughes on the front page of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. One of the cops returned fire with a 9mm, striking Hughes smack in the middle of the forehead. The round did not penetrate his skull. It went under his skin and traveled around his outer skull and exited on the other side.
We had a few of our finer citizens shot (shot by other bad guys) with 38’s and a 9mm and the same thing happened.
Any caliber starting with a 4 please.
.
- Our borders are no place to bet our LE’s life on bean bags
- Recently .50bmg ammo was fired at our LE from across the river -
- How would a chainsaw work then?
