For those of you whove been sleeping since it happened Friday, Travis County grand jurors indicted Perry on charges of abuse of official capacity and coercion of a public servant. The first count carries a possible prison term of five to 99 years. The second, two to 10. Im no expert on law or math, but I believe those potential sentences each exceed one year.
And theres more. As an indictee, Perrys state-issued Concealed Handgun License, assuming he still has one his office didnt know as of Tuesday afternoon will be suspended until the case against him is decided. (Cue the cheering coyotes.)
The indictments impact on Perrys gun rights was brought to my attention by a former Democratic state legislator who seemed happy to point it out.
Im surprised that you havent analyzed the most significant and immediate impact of the governors indictment, ex-state Sen. Steve Carriker, D-Roby, told me in an email including the applicable federal law.
Carriker also was most helpful in providing the official federal Firearms Transaction Record Part 1 form, which must be filled in by firearms purchasers. Question 11b asks Are you under indictment or information in any court for a felony, or any other crime, for which the judge could imprison you for more than one year? (An information is a formal accusation of a crime by a prosecutor.)
For Perry thats now a big ol yes. And yes means no new guns or ammo.

Rosemary Lehmberg, Democrat and the district attorney for Travis County, who was arrested for drunken driving in April 2013.
Did she lose her driver’s license and if so, are the Texas tax payers funding a cab service for her?????
No harm/no foul. Ball plays at the line.

He can go to the DPS armory.
I don't have a Praetorian guard.

Not in PA. Don’t know about TX. ‘Course if he has any sense he’s already well stocked.
Deprivation of rights under color of law
It’s a felony 18 USC 242
Lehmberg and her buddies need to get attornies of their own
I'd pay to hear that argument in front of the Supreme Court of Texas.

You have obviously never mixed it up with the IRS, or been accused of anything relating to the ‘war on drugs’. SOP is that they confiscate everything and you are hosed until you prove your innocence.
Yeah, but look at the side bar. ‘Four reasons Perry’s Indictment Could Increase his Presidential Chances’. If he plays his card right he could be the only strong Presidential hopeful the Republican’s have. Good things come in strange looking packages.
guilty until proven innocent?
this is just wrong.
You have to have a seriously good, meat-eating lawyer with kids getting ready for college to slow any of that down.

GC §411.172. ELIGIBILITY. (a) A person is eligible for a license to carry a concealed handgun if the person:
(1) is a legal resident of this state for the six-month period preceding the date
of application under this subchapter or is otherwise eligible for a license under Section 411.173(a);
(2) is at least 21 years of age;
(3) has not been convicted of a felony;
(4) is not charged with the commission of a Class A or Class B misdemeanor or equivalent offense, or of an offense under Section 42.01, Penal Code, or equivalent offense, or of a felony under an information or indictment;
That said, he needs to fight this political BS hard. I've already sent a note to him supporting his fight against the indictment, and encouraging him to spit in their eye.

Hmmm..... It wouldn’t surprise me. After all, a government official is entitled to these perks. They are after all, better than the rest of us.
Thankfully I have not.
I often think about Gov. Perry as I prepare to take my dachshund out for a walk. I make sure my little “Ruby” will also be protected just in case.
It's what law enforcement does.

Texas Democrats have been bitter ever since the redistricting that resulted from the 2000 census.
That's why the went after Tom DeLay so hard, because he was the central figure in the mid-decade redistricting that followed in 2003 that resulted in the ouster of Democrat Representative Martin Frost.
Governor Rick Perry was also a party to the redistricting, so think of this as really long knives -- payback a decade late.
See 2003 Texas redistricting for all the gory details.

He’s a liberal that Rove recruited.

But that’s the seat of the government, right? If that’s corrupt - well is it no better than Jersey or NY or Washington, DC?
