The best way to get back at da man is to put a new set of 26 inch rims on yo' ride.
That'll teach 'em.

The calculators were returned once they found out they weren’t phones.

Out of experience, if the move “out of the jungle”, the jungle will follow them, and overtake another heretofore quiet, peaceful town.
Like locusts, they go where the fields are fertile to satiate their lust for taking.
There aren’t many safe havens left...nothing left but lock and load. The government will do nothing about it, so it will eventually be up to the people.

Collect any insurance.
Depending on the insurance, there might not be any coverage. An insurance company could argue the looting was part of a "civil unrest" or a "riot", which are common exclusions from a lot of commercial property insurance policies.
Even if the store owner can recover the value of some of the stolen goods, he/she may not get much for the property damage.

Looting?Biggie, please! OK? Stop using such negative possibly racist terminology. These people are not looters.
They are undocumented shoppers. Undocumented shoppers are just doing the careful preparation and work that ordinary shoppers in ghetto neighborhoods will not do. They have shopping lists, they bring their own bags, they do not annoy the sales staff, and they very rarely bring any products back.

I had friends who were unable to stop the shop lifting from their store and finally closed down and moved on. Larger businesses can afford to take the hit but stealing the merchandise of smaller shops is devastating. This happened in a non ghetto area of town. Shop lifting is now considered by many to be a game and such a minor offense as to not merit serious consequences if caught. Our culture accommodates the easy stealing of property as well as much else because it has become impossible to stop for a number of reasons. Shoplifting is as much a gateway to other lawless behavior as pot is to harder drugs.

ALL BUSINESSES should move out of that area - far away - make it hard on that community to buy anything from this point on...maybe the chaotic youth will realize that “actions have consequences”...

It could lead to calls for a federally funded insurance pool for these risks. That's also called a bail-out, via OUR tax $$, no?

The calculators were returned once they found out they werent phones. How much do you want to bet though, that they tried to claim they received the calculator as a "gift," and would just like to exchange it for cash?

Yes, the cost will be high and the bureaucracy will grow in full measure.
