One of the fascinating layers of the Ferguson riot story is how this tragedy has exposed what is a rapidly changing attitudinal climate towards law enforcement officers (LEOs). What was for years a stable predicate -- conservatives being reflexively ‘law and order’ and inherently giving cops the benefit of the doubt -- while liberals with the built in ACLU type disdain for cops tending to always assume the worst of those in power – is now a vortex of confusion, cross currents,and contradictions.
It’s not a total flip-flop of the convention, but it’s moving in that direction. After all, we’ve seen Rand Paul and Eric Holder agree on this in the past week. Did I mention confusing and contradictory?
Consider: many young liberals have of course discovered a love for big government, and take to Twitter and Facebook to support cops harassing Tea Party types and Nevada ranchers just as they cheer the IRS and Lois Lerner persecuting conservative business people and political groups. Meanwhile, liberal voters in Boston cheered their ‘Boston Strong’ reaction to the Marathon bombers, which to me looked a lot like an entire city cowering from a wounded young teen -- while LEOs with Seal Team Six fantasies trampled on every liberty they could for 48 hours -- brandishing Kevlar, automatic weapons, neo-Nazi style helmets and riding around neighborhoods in hummers and kicking down doors.
The media, long willing to challenge the cops and take the victim's point of view, have been silent, or even dismissive, of recent fears by the right of militarized police departments and massive ammo buys by the Feds. Worship of Obama and support for public sector unions has trumped their former concerns apparently.
The old model of “neighborhood cops” -- who walk a beat in their blues ....

Gay marriage and abortion are also federal issues, for instance in the military and government hospitals.
Abortion was practiced at the federal level before Roe v Wade, and the President just instructed the military to recognize gay marriage from the states.
Never support a libertarian for any office, at any level of government, from city hall, to the Presidency.

We all know that libertarianism is about being social liberals, we know what someone means when they tell us they are “more libertarian on some issues”.

If I understand Manc's posts correctly, just for merely criticizing the police in these instances, makes us cop haters. To say nothing of those who beat a homeless man to death or the child that was shot dead by the policewoman for having a remote controller in his hand when he answered a knock on the door. Again, if I understand Manc correctly as long as the police do those things it is o.k. and we should keep our mouths shut.

In this instance I think the cop did right , but what pisses me off to no end is how some use this tragedy , this tragedy not others to defame all cops to suit and push their own agenda.

If someone does wrong then call them out but right now we have a cop attacked, a druggie thug robbing a store, we have riots and looting and some can only talk about how bad cops are.

Even if there were several of these ugly incidents a day that would still be low-—about 1000 per year. There are approximately 700,000 LEOs in the country-——most are doing a good job but the fun of posting the nasty stuff seems to be the trend around here.
That said——my only direct confrontation with a police officer in my very long life was nasty-—he was an ass,but I realize he was an exception.

It's gracious of you to give police officers the benefit of the doubt. Nonetheless, it's difficult to credit your assertion when you have exactly one data point to work from... and that one is at variance with your conclusion.

Of course it’s a police report and did someone state it was not???? And for crying out loud, do you even know police protocol? Guess not. You can stick with the sides of Sharpton, black panthers, DOJ, Holder, Obama etc if you like and I’ll stand back and look at this with objectivity

Sorry I was not more precise, but I wanted to keep the issue on this incident and not others.
I know many cops and Deputies and have been out on ride alongs.
Most are good people , some are not, infact I can name a couple which are more than not in their attitude.
I thin I give the impression no matter what cops do they are right and that is not the case, but in this incident I do believe he was right, the thug was wrong, and the worst of all is how the Holders of this world are now fanning the flames to suit their political agenda..
I personally feel the questions should be right now , this exact moment is why do so many in these areas feel it is OK to rob, steal, car jack and assault others. Why is the crime so high and unemployment so high. They have been voting Dems for a long time and they have seen no improvement and yet they still vote Dem. It just boggles the mind.
Now Holder and others are trying to divert the attention on to cops being bad which is a discussion I feel we can have later but right now we have to stop this looting, robbing shooting at the cops and stop making excuses for them .
When I say we I don’t mean most of us conservatives or good minded folk.
