Montana Democrats have chosen a new candidate for the U.S. Senate race after Sen. John Walsh dropped out amid plagiarism allegations over his thesis at the U.S. Army War College, the Associated Press reported.
The new candidate is a little-known state lawmaker named Amanda Curtis, who is a first-term representative from Butte. She has less than three months to make her case to voters over her Republican opponent Rep. Steve Daines.
"If we win here in Montana, outspent and outgunned in a race where we were left for dead, it will send a message to Washington, D.C., that we want change," Butte said in a speech after a state convention. The vote was 82-46 for Curtis.
Curtis is a 34-year-old high school math teacher whose family has labor ties in the blue-collar town of Butte. She won her state House seat in 2012.
She has come out in support of "reasonable" gun control legislation that would expand background checks, and has criticized a 2011 medical marijuana law passed by the state Legislature as over restrictive, and pushed to increase hiring of Montanans for state public-works projects, according to the AP.
Montana is a prime target for Republicans looking to pick up six seats this November to take control of the Senate.

Feminist money may come to Montana, but it’s not likely to be enough. Steve Daines is on his way to the U.S. Senate.
She has agreed to take a bullet for the team (Democrats) in exchange for something else down the road. She won’t be expected to do much.
A whole 128 super dems decided who would run?
Are these the Political Commissars?
Butte, the town that talks.
Butte, the town that talks...
I was wondering if anyone noticed...
In case anyone is wondering, Butte is pronounced
Boo-tay
‘cuz of all the dims who inhabit that lovely, dying town.
I think they meant that the candidate was talking from her Butte.
More likely the Dem State Committee. I suspect most states have provisions that the state committee chooses replacement candidates for statewide offices. Maine appoints district committees at our convention whose sole purpose is to vote on cong dist replacement if necessary.
“Walsh, who was appointed after Sen. Max Baucus became the U.S. ambassador to China, withdrew his candidacy last week amid the plagiarism charges while he was studying at the U.S. Army War College. “
This paragraph or a variation of it is going to be a thorn in her campaign as it will be at the end of every article about her or the race.

Gun Control Supporters Rally at Capitol
Group called Mayors Against Illegal Guns organized the event as part of a tour through 25 states

HELENA Supporters of expanded background checks for gun buyers brought their multi-state tour to Montana on Tuesday to ask Democratic U.S. Sen. Max Baucus to change his stance and help Congress reconsider the issue.
But the small rally at the Capitol didnt seem to budge the states senior senator, who is retiring at the end of 2014. Baucus has said that his vote in opposition of the background checks was based on overwhelming opposition from Montanans.
A group called Mayors Against Illegal Guns, founded and funded by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, organized the event as part of a tour through 25 states. Another rally is scheduled for Thursday in Missoula.
The organization has also aired television advertisements in Montana, a pro-gun state with a history of opposing new restrictions, and other states represented by U.S. senators who in April voted against a failed bill to expand background checks for gun buyers.
State Rep. Amanda Curtis of Butte told the crowd to stand up for reasonable gun control legislation. The Democrat who is considering a run for the U.S. House said she believes the state is largely supportive of the idea.
I dont think in any way it is an unreasonable or outrageous thing to ask, Curtis said in an interview after the event.
Curtis said during the rally that when she was 17, her brother killed himself with a gun at a party playing Russian roulette. She argued more can be done to prevent gun deaths, and told a few dozen gathered at the rally to stand up to fictitious counter arguments.
When someone says the government is going to come and take your guns, that is crazy. That is not going to happen, Curtis said. We wouldnt ever let that happen.

Lookslike they went looking for a bright young face for the future. Maybe she will attract lightning. But then again maybe she is being showcased for the future if this deos not work.
I was wondering what other orifice they would speak from
I always thought it was pronounced “Byoot”
“If we win here in Montana, outspent and outgunned in a race where we were left for dead, it will send a message to Washington, D.C., that we want change,”
We’ve had enough of OBAMA type SH*TChange that she wants to continue! The voters should kick her all over that state.
I don’t think Daines will have much trouble, I bet this woman would come close to winning if she were running for the House seat though (she almost ran).
She’s a product of the state’s teacher’s unions, and a big fan of gays and gun control, the latter position puts her far out of step with Montana voters.
Montana desperately needs a right to work law, unions are way too powerful there, curtailing their power would kneecap Montana rats.
They have been electing Dems statewide for a while.
The “State Central Committee” of the Montana rat party made the choice.
It’s not like they could hold another primary, so this was actually the more small d democratic way to do it, instead of having a small number of party big wigs make the decision behind closed doors like they would do in a lot of states.
She looks to be the most left-wing member of the MT legislature, moonbat across the board, self-described anarchist and anti-choice on education. You’d think the Dems would put up someone who had a remote shot at winning.
But they usually at least pretend not to be rabid gun grabbers.
