“He pulled up ahead of them. And then he got a call-in that there was a strong-arm robbery. And, they gave a description. And, hes looking at them and they got something in their hands and it looks like it could be what, you know those cigars or whatever. So he goes in reverse back to them....”
In his most recent presser, didn’t the police chief say Ferguson Officer Darren Wilson didn’t know about the robbery/assault at the time of the FIRST confrontation?
He did say that.
Knowing and suspecting are two different things. He had no way of knowing but was suspicious That’s enough!
“didnt the police chief say Ferguson Officer Darren Wilson didnt know about the robbery/assault at the time of the FIRST confrontation?”
That’s my understanding. But does it strike you as believable that an officer in a patrol car wouldn’t hear and note a radio call about a robbery right near his position, even if he was not personally designated to respond?
Those two data points are not necessarily contradictory. Cop was dispatched to the scene because a guy was walking in the middle of the road (police chief’s report). He wasn’t sent there because of a robbery. But then as he gets there he gets the report about the robbery. If a store in the area was robbed the units in the area would have likely been notified
Maggi...I think he heard it on the radio awhile stopping the kids, and likely they did too, which is why Brown pushed him back into the car when he tried to get out, and the fight ensued.
I thought the chief said Wilson wasn’t responding to the robbery. They had already sent another cop to that location.
One version of the event is that on first contact, the officer told him to get out of the street, and he drove away. Looking behind at them in the rear view mirror, he realized that they could be the suspects in the strong armed robbery, at which time he backed up and made a second contact.
The police chief said earlier today that Wilson was aware of the strong arm robbery and given the description of the perp.
This afternoon he says Wilson did not know this info when he stopped Brown for walking in the middle of the street.
This police chief needs to be kept far away from a Mic and the press.
Officer Wilson was on another call when a description of Mike Brown’s robbery was transmitted. Just because he wasn’t assigned to follow up on the original call doesn’t mean he wasn’t aware of the particulars. Officers carry portable radios and hear all transmissions from the dispatcher regardless if they are assigned or not. It is very plausible he wrapped up his original call and had the information needed to realize when he saw Mike Brown he found the perp and acted without having been officially assigned.
Yeah, I didn’t believe the narrative that the officer didn’t know about the robbery. There would’ve been ‘chatter’ from dispatch, IMHO.
