As of August 12, 2014, Obama has taken 20 "vacations" lasting 2 to 15 days. He has spent all or part of 129 days on vacation.
And the president has made 33 visits to the official Camp David presidential retreat in Maryland, totaling all or part of 84 days. (Knoller does not count Camp David trips as vacation.)
Obamas morning round of golf on Tuesday brought his total since January 2009 to 186, with 22 of them on Marthas Vineyard.
At this point in George W. Bushs presidency, he had taken 58 trips to his Prairie Chapel ranch near Crawford, Texas, for all or part of 381 days. (Bush also frequently used the property to host world leaders).
Bush had also spent all or part of 26 days at his familys oceanside compound in Kennebunkport, Maine, over the course of seven trips there.
And the former Texas governor had been to Camp David 108 times for a total of all or part of 341 days.
Bush played 24 rounds of golf as president. He later explained his decision to stop in the fall of 2003 by saying he felt it was not appropriate to be seen golfing while American troops fought in Afghanistan and Iraq.

yep-
When the WORLD is burning...
Blame the Repugs- cannot blame Nixon for this...
so... let’s blame Bush-
The almost 1600 acre SECLUDED ranch is his HOME!!!
Not vacation- large enough that he had quite a
few of the world leaders there- Secluded, away from reporters- away from Demonrats- (by the way - the Demonrats then Threw Cindy Sheehan into a tent across from
his property)- think I could protest in Martha’s
Vineyard? -but the REAL reason why this is on the NEWS?
A.- pictures of the Hussein Dancing- while Missouri burns!
B.- Frisking Diners at an exclusive club! While Christians being slaughtered!
C.- Russia sending convoys into the Ukraine!- O’bummer on
the Beach.
Let’s Blame George Bush!
LOL
As far as I know, during the time he has been President, Obama has never vacationed at his “home” in Chicago. I’m not sure he has even been there for any reason since his immaculation.
You are spot on. I think he chose Chicago for his “home” only because he chose a place where he could get “elected”.
I think there is no chance he returns “home” after leaving the White Hut.
Let’s not forget the carpet bagging Clintons moving to NY.
for the same reason. They abandoned Arkansas pretty quickly.
Security is difficult to provide in dense urban areas. Not just the location but also transportation. Camp David is a helicopter flight away. To get to the Bush Ranch you fly to the AFB in Waco then helicopter to the ranch. Providing a place for the protesters is prohibitive. Remember Code Pink marching and camping along the highway outside the Bush ranch.
And this continues on to the ex-president. If you live close to the ex-prez Clinton home in NY or Bush in Dallas you have to put up with that. Every time you come or go you have to go thru the checkpoint. And there will always be men wandering around the neighborhood.
He waited about 5 minutes before leaving, partly not to upset the kids, and partly because he probably knew that it would take some minutes for the Secret Service to make arrangements for them to leave. Kerry in 2004 huffed and puffed about how he would not have stayed there five minutes in the classroom. Back in the real world, he was in the Capitol on 9/11/2001 and ran for his life along with everyone else when they thought the Capitol might be hit.
It’s an Illinois tradition. Lincoln never went back to Springfield a single time after he became President.
Yep, I remember reading stories of old Abe out on the links while the Civil War was being fought. Was Martha’s Vineyard in business back then?
No, I think he preferred to go to White Sulphur Springs. That’s why he was determined to have West Virginia split from Virginia and become part of the Union.
Did it have a golf course back then? I know the PGA stops in Greenbrier now. Has Obama played that course yet?
