Seriously, how far behind the curb is this congressman, rioting and destruction is already in progress. Harsh measures are currently needed. Peaceful measures after the rioting has calmed down would be good though, for the community as well as everyone else.

Yes, you are right about that. I respect what he did for the Civil Rights movement just as I respect what John McCain did in Viet Nam. But both of them have lived their political lives in recent times in shameful ways.
The looters are the perfect infiltrators and useful idiots for a government intent on creating division, repressing rights and imposing martial law. This is classic divide and conquer strategy: black vs white, police vs public, rich vs poor.
