Five days after the death of Michael Brown, an unarmed 18-year-old fatally shot by a local police officer, President Obama joined state and national leaders in calling for changes to how police are dealing with protesters in Ferguson, Missouri, amid continued street clashes.
"I know that emotions are raw right now in Ferguson," President Obama said at a news conference this afternoon. "There is never excuse for violence against the police or for those who would use this tragedy as a cover for vandalism or looting. ... There is also no excuse for police to use excessive force against peaceful protests or to throw protesters in jail."
Obama's comments came as the FBI told ABC News that it issued a warning to police officers that a Black Panther leader was trying to incite violence against law enforcement in Ferguson, a suburb of St. Louis.

Actually he never left Martha’s Vineyard.
Fox had a camera that panned the room, it was just a small building with maybe a half dozen reporters.
I don’t know, but it sounds like you know absolutely nothing about rioting and looting. This kind of anarchy hurts middle class and small business owners trying to make a living. It als hurts the poor people even more, since businesses get lost or even go under can’t hire people. It sounds like you believe in the Hollywood action films. What good is a gun when your store has been lit up by a firebomb? Or when you and your limited ammo is against a mob armed with everything from baseball bats to guns? Police support means everything in a situation. Unlike an action movie, they don’t have the awful marksmanship either. The rioting merited police riot control measures. As for the bad cop, well, we know that the press reported it to us, we know that there is an investigation going on, and we need to realize that the rioting was a foolish response which is going to hurt the community mire than the one kid being shot. I wouldn’t want to live in a place where people react to injustice by destroying part of town in response.
Thanks for the correction. I haven’t had a chance to read up on today’s events. I had read that he was flying back to DC for some announcement. I assumed it was on Fergusen.
Thr only problem is that during rioting, one’s sense of friend and enemy is anything but clear.
What happens after all the stores have all been emptied or destroyed?
I hope they put a stop to this BS soon.
Wash DC pretty much empties out in August. All the elites head off to their summer estates.
Limited ammo? that is what 30 round magazines are for. The police in Ferguson are lucky that the urban youth are not into long range rifle shooting, then they would have a real problem. I have seen a lot of bad police tactics show up on twitter the last few days that could have easily turned out bad.
Wake up....American & all Americans.......this is the America that Obama yearns for.....one that tears its citizens apart!!! He love and thrives on it!!! You think he cares about America, African-Americans and all other Americans. If so....you are either insane or stoned on drugs or booze!!!
I remember the days when Mayor Daly issued orders to shoot looters....very effective!!!
the nitwit in chief has equated the rioters with the police....pathetic.
