The St. Louis County Police Department will no longer be involved in the policing Ferguson, Missouri, the suburban community rocked by protests after the death of an unarmed black teenager who was shot by a police officer last week.
Rep. Lacy Clay (D-Mo.), who represents Ferguson, told Bloomberg on Thursday that Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon (D) is expected to announce the decision later today.
"The gov. just called me and he's on his way to St. Louis now to announce he's taking St. Louis County police out of the situation," he said.
The situation, already tenuous after extensive police presence that included rubber bullets, pepper spray and tear gas since Michael Brown's death last week, exploded Wednesday evening after SWAT officers roughed up and arrested two reporters inside a local McDonald's. The journalists were unharmed, but the incident highlighted the town's ramped up police presence, which has been criticized as overly militarized.
It was unclear which authorities, either state police or the Federal Bureau of Investigation, would be taking over in place of St. Louis County Police Department.
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the county police was "not aware of reports that they are being relieved of duty."

Yep. Obamma is going to make statements at 12:15 EST (or whenever he shows up). Prolly to make sure to let everyone know that he is “focused like a laser beam” on everything going on internationally and domestically whilst he is on vacay. I suspect he’ll mention that he called the Gov so he, rather than the Gov, can take credit for handling the situation. He might even say the words he likes to use: “I’ve directed my XXX to blah, blah, blah”, only he may not realize that he doesn’t (or isn’t supposed to have) any governance over the state Governors. Though this Gov is a D, so he probably welcomes direction and input from Obama and ValJar.
No, seriously.
They were trouble-making malcontents. But was there anything appoximating five consecutive nights of actual and widespread rioting/looting provoking repeated police responses using tear gas and rubber bullets?
If there was, it never made the mainstream press. I do remember, vaguely, an occupy disturbance in Oakland that turned violent.
“The Dems have noting to run on and now use this issue to get their base out.”
BINGO.....
Last night, just before the cops went wild, one of the live feeds was showing the locals in the street bashing on Obama and the Dems.
One of the Black Panther “organizers” tried to shut her up, telling her “Focus on the task”. Other locals were telling him to shut up, she had every right to b*tch about Obama, when the first plastic bottle got thrown at the cops.
There is more than one story going on here, but it is all getting lost in the over-reaction of the local police.
They won’t rough up the Feds. The Feds are their people.
“If Bush were in office, this would be bigger than Katrina.”
We have a WINNER, folks!!
(see my previous post)
Nixon comments pushed back until 2pm CST, Obama pushed back until about 3pm, per CNN.
Dems need to coordinate the message with the media sycophants, it seems.
Since when does the governor have the authority to tell a county sheriff to deploy or disengage ? ....doesn't sound right.
You were seriously not paying attention, then.
Five nights in Missouri compared to MONTHS of violence, rapes, private property damage, constant trespassing, attacks on police, requiring concussion grenades and tear gas on numerous occassions.
Please tell me you don’t have access to any media outlets.
Agreed was a Military Policeman 30 years ago . This riot has been mishandled from the first night . After the first night the Chief of Police should have called for back up from the state police & if that wasn’t enough manpower then back them up with National Guard .
The St.Louis County cops need remedial crowd control training as they are waaay to eager to point guns at unarmed citizens,
More outreach to the local clergy to call for calm combined with enough manpower to do the “Stomp & Drag” backed up with tear gas will clear the streets .
Also the folks don’t have much faith in the integrity of the police. The cops have only after 5 days decided to announce that the cop who did the shooting was on paid leave not out on patrol, also now after 5 days they have announced that the cops would let a Grand Jury do the investigation into the shooting.
Combine this with the notion that folks no longer have faith in the honesty /integrity good character/
Constitutional fidelity of Cops ,courts politicians/government in general you will see more of this .
manc, I don’t hardly post on fr anymore, but for the past two days I have read every post you have put up on this ongoing saga, and I agree with each and every one of your posts.
Good luck....
“Trouble is they are treating EVERYONE like a gangsta.”
1. Brown was canonized in time for the next election.
2. NewsPersons were not grovelled before.
A case can be made that the Libtard Obamoids are conflicted.
Based on available information it appears the cop made a huge mistake shooting the kid. Even if there was a struggle in the car the kid was shot 35 feet away while he was running away.
People should be pissed. People should not be looting, burning, and so forth. The police state military style response in this case is wayyyy over the top for what in reality is a few hundred hoodlums at most.
Conservatives should be alarmed at the response because our government considers us to be more dangerous then these hoodlums who are looting and rioting.
