Any chance Rand Paul has of winning the presidency depends on building an unconventional or non-traditional coalition.
He has been upfront and honest about it.
That is why a lot of both democrats and republicans fear Rand Paul.
The existing coalitions in both parties have been around since the 1960s, 70s, and 80s. The coalitions in both parties are strained and if Paul is successful creating a new coalition, that has the potential to bust up these old coalitions ushering in a period of political re-alignment and instability in both parties.
For example, Paul's libertarian bent may not be adequate for social conservative republicans or Paul's foreign policy isolationism may lead GOP hawks to vote for Hillary.

You need to get some stain stick on that kool aid you spilt all over yourself. If you have to be a philosophical eunuch, a contradictory liar, and an intellectual idiot to get votes, then you should not get votes. And I hate to burst your paul bot bubble, but no one "fears" Rand Paul. Not politically.
Rand Paul's making me nervous. The way to build a majority is to inspire people to embrace your views. "Sleeping with the Enemy" only serves to corrupt politicians. Has Rand Paul said or done anything to stop the Federal Reserve from destroying the US?Actions speak louder than words.
Summary...Rand Paul was top-guy with his passionate anti-drone pro-privacy speech. We hoped he had embraced the positive messages of what Ron Paul believes in. Since then, Rand seems to be playin' the game. What a shame.
