'This Is Not Open For Discussion' — Massive SWAT Team Tells Peaceful Protesters In Ferguson To Leave

A large police SWAT team showed up to a peaceful demonstration in Ferguson, Missouri and the scene is getting increasingly tense, reports Huffington Post's Ryan J. Reilly, who is currently on the ground.

Soon after the team of more than 70 officers came on the scene, they told protesters they needed to leave the area and that "this [was] not open for discussion," Reilly tweeted. MSNBC reporter Trymain Lee tweeted that police told the crowd, "Go home, return to your vehicles. The protesters responded, "Mike can't go home!"

"Your right to assembly is not being denied," the police said later over a loudspeaker.

What is ridicules?

If a new chopper can be shot down, can one with a star painted on it not be shot down over the neighborhood?

Jim,

While I think you are probably right, if the LEOs are doing it by the book, they should not object to their operations being filmed.

So now it’s your opinion that it is unlawful for police officers to clear the streets.

So every sporting event, every concert, every special event where crowd control is required, it is unlawful for the police to set up areas where the public cannot go for safety and crown control reasons. Right?

And of course if this sort of thing is required, then the national guard must be called in. The city councils must declare a curfew, otherwise the police are issuing illegal orders when they try to enforce no-go zones.

Is that what you’re saying? Well, essentially yes it is.

Nutty!

The officers had every right to demand folks clear the area. It was for cause. It was reasonable.

MRAPs, MP4s, mounted weapons, body armor and military-grade equipment to do so is 'reasonable'????

Whatever happened to fire hoses, shields and police batons??

Or do this people prefer a National Civilian Security Force, just as strong, just as powerful, just as well funded as the military?

If so, my God - America truly is gone if enough people are not bothered by this. Someone turn out the lights, we are finished with liberty in this country.

Which is why it’s ok to shoot at police helicopters, right?

BTW Ray, I have no idea what you're talking about.

This was explained to you in post 404....

Read it...carefully....and stop crab walking by switching terms....the cops CAN order them to disperse....they CANNOT legally tell them to get off the streets without a curfew in place....

Ok. So the police, whose job it is to protect the public, should just not go into an area where thugs are shooting at helicopters. Just cede the area and allow the thugs to operate. Sure why not.

Or allow them to do their job but with the added complication of dodging news copters. There’s limited airspace, let’s add a few more copters to the mix, especially if they’re not part of the operation. What could go wrong?

The press can do their job without interfering with police operations, they do not need to be shoulder to shoulder with them.

He wasn’t suggesting it’s okay to shoot at police helicopters. He was asking why police helicopters are in the air if it’s dangerous.

Honestly, you have to take into consideration what was taking place back there. This department sought to go on record that the rioting as over. It’s that simple.

Folks, I agree if this were a situation out of the blue that officers were setting up shop on an intersection, and doing something to protect illegal activity, it would be wrong.

In a riot situation, the town being destroyed, people who live it the area in danger of being killed or seriously harmed, it’s not abuse to meet idiots with brute force.

I do not see this as some bell-weather event, now making it possible for every police department to show this type of force all the time when there is no rioting.

Surely you can understand these are not normal circumstances.

You in post 352:

>> If they’re shooting at helicopters, why were law enforcement choppers flying tonight?

It’s outrageous that there a police helicopters why wouldn’t they be shot at? /s

Why shouldn’t police copters be flying? They have no business doing so?

Crim, you’re effort to charm you way to victory when you’re floating a preposterous theory isn’t going to work.

The police have the right to ask people to vacate the area. They have not told those folks they can’t go out to eat, see a movie, protest in a peaceful area. They have asked them to vacate a riot zone.

What part of this is still murky for you.

OK. Thanks for clarifying on dragnet2’s behalf.

Police work IS dangerous. Police should not fly a copter because there’s danger? That’s ridiculous.

Hold on a sec....the USSC has already ruled that police have no legal obligation to protect you.

And I will remind you that in seval cases over last weekend they stood by and watched looting.....

Today was about “showing who’s boss”....and not about “keeping the peace”.....

The only thing as is going to restore order is a curfew and the national guard

Throughout the 1930s LE was outgunned by the criminals normally. Then the most recent incident can think of was the full body armor and automatic weapons used in a bank robbery in California. Once more LE was outgunned. Am not saying arming up is right or wrong for LE but in todays world (planet wide) everyone is arming up. The threats are greater. The streets resemble the 1930s. Is it right or is it wrong LE is arming up? Don’t think anyone doesn’t truly want to go home to family once finished enforcing the law for the day unless they are insane but insanity reigns supreme these days especially among the lawless. Signs of the times? Many good men and women have died because of being outgunned. I’d hate to be holding a handgun for defensive purposes when a jet airliner was coming at me or someone with a fully automatic weapon when my weapon was simi.

So the police, whose job it is to protect the public, should just not go into an area where thugs are shooting at helicopters.

Someone said there was restricted airspace due to safety concerns, and implied this is why no news choppers were allowed into the area.

Since a LEO chopper can be shot down as easily as news chopper, what happened to the safety issue?

Would the concern for safety not be for those on the ground where the aircraft would crash, as well as those in the aircraft?

??

And if they did nothing, no pd presence, and more businesses were looted, would you feel better?

People and businesses pay taxes so mobs that riot and loot are put down. After several days of protests that become riots why wouldn’t pd be there?

Your very first post in this thread was absurd...assuming...and frankly insulting....and directed at “all”....you accused us “all” of defending the rioters when in fact NO poster has done do....

And now several times you have baited and switchedterms “off the street” go home”....”riot area”....

As was pointed out to you in post 404...there has been no state of emergency or curfew put in place....and you completely glossed over the fact that the cops threw tear gas directly at the press...

Surely you can understand that this show-and-tell of our new fully armored and militarized Civilian Security Force sets a precedent.

So the next time Americans go to protest Illegals being bussed into their community - we should expect an armored column of Security Forces like this to be there ‘for our protection’. Then we should just suck it up and disperse when told we have to go home because stopping the busses is deemed as a ‘riot’ by the Authorities.

Yes?

As with all tyrannies, ‘circumstances’ become relative and what is ‘normal’ today is illegal tomorrow.

Or perhaps you think such cannot happen here when it is unfolding before your eyes?
