No you don’t. That is not the scenario you proffered. You specifically cited the Beslan School attack. That’s not a bank robber taking a hostage (although the police jacked that up as well). That was a military style assault by a platoon sized element of the Riyad-us Saliheen Brigade.
1. This SWAT team would be UNABLE to deal with the situation. The Russians used their military forces in Beslan, not a couple of army wannabes.
2. This is clearly the role of the military. That would have been an invasion by a foreign force onto US soil.
3. The police forces in the United States are supposed to uphold and defend the law, not defend against invaders. That’s the role of the military.
No, I don’t approve of the conversion of LEOs to pretend military.
If you want to talk about the police training for a hostage situation, fine. Let’s talk about it. But don’t say, “Needed to protect against something like Beslan” and then change it to “a hostage situation.”
