POLICE AND RIOTS

Posted on 08/12/2014 4:47:26 AM PDT by 7thson

I have read some about the riots goind on due to the shooting death of Michael Brown and it started me thinking of something. I do not want anyone reading this post to think I sympathize with the rioters. I do not. But I think we should start to seriously question eitehr the training of police or how they recruit.

I do not know how this esculated into a shooting. I have read and heard that police ordered a kid to walk on the sidewalk and not the street and it got nasty from there. However, not a week goes by that a story hits the news about some bad action by a police officer. Whether it is beating up a homeless woman, a mistaken home entry, shooting a dog (lots of those), whatever. If it was always in one city or local, than a person could say something is wrong with the police procedures or leadership of that area. But when it happens across the nation, that leads me to think that something is seriously wrong with either police training procedures or the type of people that become police officers.

What say you Freepers?

when you deal with the dregs of society on a daily basis, it wears on you and you begin to see everyone in the same light, you must constantly remind yourself that they are not.

Exactly my point about society. Even when my township had cops they were pretty good guys because they seldom had to deal with the worst society has to offer. Few people around here have a chip on their shoulders that they dare people to knock off.

Suggest we wait for ALL THE FACTS to come out before we start condemning the police.

The police board operates behind closed doors and behind the privacy laws. Unions always back the police officer. Courts keep rulings private. Hidden justice is no justice when it comes to police controversies.

After watching this myself and sitting in the courtroom for awhile, my opinion is the police are out of control. Current privacy laws, unions, and the courts are protecting them.

What say you Freepers?

I say two people know what really happened and one of them is dead. So the complete story will never be known.

Current LE attitude is ‘you will do exactly what I say because I get to tell exactly what to do’. Then they zealously exercise that prerogative.

To me it’s an example of control issues. I think people with these types of issues are drawn to LE. That’s not to say all LE has this problem but enough do to draw attention to LE.

I said last night: Beware of conformational bias. Nobody posts stories about the cops who didn’t shoot the dog or the black teen. Not on FR, HP or Fox news. So what you read or see as news is but a microcosm of the worst of LE.

You are right.

Law enforcement today is not the organization of peace officers of your daddy’so day.

There are still many fine officers out there and this is not directed at them.

But too many cops today have an attitude problem and I believe it comes from above - from the academies and from Washington.

Too maNY cops act like an occupying paramilitary forcer of
union thugs. An army which abuses citizens, ignores constitutional rights, employs excessive force, and collides in covering up the most egregious crimes against the public.

Solution?

1. Civilian review boards.

2. Civilian monitors in each and every police academy drawn from voluteers.

3. Replacement of police chiefs with civilian directors of public safety.

4.Residency requirements.

5. Cops who reflect the ethnic background of the communities they serve.

6.A MASSIVE reduction in SWAT teams - if we NEED a National Guard, we HAVE one - made of citizen soldiers.

7. END the OBSCENITY of police unions (and ALL civil service unions for that matter.)

Half the people who know all the facts are dead. So how are ALL THE FACTS going to come out?

The police serve themselves, the courts and the political power structure as long as it ponders to theit privileges.

His answer surprised me, he said “when you deal with the dregs of society on a daily basis, it wears on you and you begin to see everyone in the same light, you must constantly remind yourself that they are not.

Wow! That was an enlightening and moving statement.

I heard the “thug” was shot serveral times, 35 feet from the police car, and that he was running away.
Claiming "you heard" does nothing more than inflame an already volatile situation.
Or is that your goal?

Certain neighborhoods, indeed. There are variables here that clarify.

The average cop in Areas like Ferguson or St Louis makes about 45 thousand.

What kind of officer does that draw ?

:: we should start to seriously question eitehr the training of police ::

Currently, JohnnyLaw is trained to view anyone who is not a LEO is a “hostile” (enemy).

That is the “point of change” needed.

When a police officer is simply driving down the street, happens upon several people walking down the middle of a street, politely tells them to please move to the sidewalk, they refuse and keep walking down the middle of the street, the officer stops to try to get them out out of the middle of the street and at least one of the people immediately attacks the police officer for no reason as he gets out of the car and drives the officer back into his car fighting for his gun - how else should police officers treat the public except as ,” trained to view anyone who is not a LEO is a “hostile” (enemy)”

This situation (if true) seems to be an example that proves the case anyone could be considered hostile

Just sayin’ .

“Another thing I want to add. ....what side they will be on when our society starts to collapse”.

More the question of “what side” of a mighty thin blue line will civilians be on “when our society starts to collapse” ... COLLAPSES!? Some percentage of LEO’s do an outstanding-to-remarkable job of PO’n civilians. My practical experience demonstrates it a minuscule number but judging by exception is equally expeditious for many “silly villains”.

So Ladies & Gents, in the heat of summer, turn off the AC and roll the window down while patrolling. Park the bus and go Walk About the neighborhood. It’s your neighborhood too, show your flag. Make community policing more than the buzz phrase that got your commanders promoted.

Yes, I’ve seen the ‘walking in the street’ here in Los Angeles. Or ‘walking and screaming’ in the street. You cannot, of course, hit someone while they stop traffic for their own twisted reasons. It is very passive aggressive, and there are elements of society - ‘the dregs’ as the cop said - that are working against a thriving, safe society. AND there are those who will use any excuse to loot, burn, trash things, threaten ‘order’ and cause chaos.

I am on the side of Law & Order, even with all the individuals who are less-than-perfect.

This is happening with ESCALATING frequency in non-minority neighborhoods and is directed at ALL “civilians” (just when the hell did cops cease thinking of themselves as “civilians”)?

It always starts locally. A respectful and law-abiding community or town will have respectful officers. It’s real simple! OTOH Ghetto’s will always produce aggressive and very defensive officers.

If a community is going to perform civil disobedience, then IMO they deserve all of the K-9 & SWAT Action that can be aimed at them with orders to kill. I understand the police have individuals that are out of line, so far this doesn’t seem to be the case here.

Precisely true. And the federal government is funding highly secure paramilitary bunkers all over the country to function as strongholds for these forces to operate out of if the “natives” get restless. It started under the clueless idiot who was President earlier and been vastly expanded under his maleficent and totally evil successor and current president.

I read an article that the first round went off in the car as he tried to grab the officer’s gun and there may have been a fumbling between the two over the weapon. Shell casing was found in the car. After that...pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop and down he went.
