I have no idea why those two reporters were working at the McDonalds. Makes no sense. Unless they were undercover as workers. Originally I figured they were eating there or went in to rest and use the restroom when they evacuated the restaurant as the SWAT went in. But they say in articles that they were working at the McDonalds.

I got it. They were working as cooks or cashiers, but using the McDonalds as a staging area and they were working as journalists in there. Basically they took over the McDonalds as an area where they were staying at to cover the situation.
