America did not become great by keeping people out. We are great because, throughout our history, we have held our doors wide open to those seeking a new start, economic opportunity, and a chance to raise their families in peace and freedom.
Tragically, our outdated immigration laws no longer uphold this quintessentially American vision. The country founded and built by immigrants now erects unnecessary barriers that turn aspiring Americans away and tear families apart.

That was before the welfare state, Padre.
Just trying to fill empty churches
Whatever happened to just preaching the gospel?

Sorry Bishop but that is just not true. We do not hold the door wide open to anyone. We have a system of laws and procedures that should be followed. Our Government is not following the law.
What tears families apart is people not following the law.
The rest of us are tired of paying for the children of the irresponsible who have no business having children they can’t feed and shelter.
The Catholic church should be footing the bill for Central American illegals instead of recruiting them to increase their membership and to sign up for taxpayer funded goodies.
America did not become great by allowing anyone who wants access to free stuff....free stuff.....regardless of their health status, their education status, their language skills, etc.
Complete BS your Eminence ....
My parents were LEGAL IMMIGRANTS, they presented themselves
to a US Consulate in their home country, obtained a entry visa,
presented proof of financial viability (or a letter of sponsorship
from a US citizen, or a job commitment in other cases), passed a physical examination, was subjected to a literacy test and paid their own passage to the US.
Where they were once again examined, inspected, documented and
finally allowed to follow their own way to find the American dream.
Immigrants to this country are to follow the LAW !
That's what we expect and it's what we demand !!
There was a system for checking the health of those coming from other nations, and there was a quota system, numbers were kept and it was not allowed for untold thousands coming at once or in a very short period time. Even big cities did not want a million immigrants coming to their state in a year..
We stopped being serious about knowing who was coming and where they were to live, etc., We do not and did not want people doing evil and being criminals, now it seems there are “no holds barred” and the results are showing up as huge, huge expenses for schools, police enforcement, medical care, housing and more !!! etc.
It is not that we refuse immigrants it is we want them to support their own lives. Not live on welfare.
NOT FAIR to the hard working people of America.
the problem the bishop chooses to ignore is that a “working” immigration system is not in need of nor should have “amnesty” as a component of it
if there was the tiniest bit of rational and objective reason for amnesty it would have to come from long standing INADEQUATE AND TOO LITTLE LEGAL IMMIGRATION FROM THE LOCALES THAT THE MAJORITY OF ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS COME FROM, but the facts do not support such reasoning, and further,
the facts would support its opposite - that LEGAL immigration from the places where so much illegal immigrants come from has been so generous that it has engendered an entitlement mentality, by those who are legal immigrants here - from those places - that any of their friends and neighbors back home are entitled to come as well
America was not founded by immigrants or for immigrants, and had almost no immigration until it started in the 1840s and 1850s, then the politics started becoming European and socialist.
Tens of millions of Catholic refugees from Catholic nations, to a country created by Protestants that allows them vote, which leads to more catholic refugees, the people in Italy know what they are doing.
The probability of such rejection dissuaded many aspiring wards of the state from ever boarding the ship just as the probability of a warm welcome convinces many aspiring wards of the state to make the trip north today.
This may very well be how the south will fall, politically, through the influence of the socialist political wing of the Catholic Church.
Thought to be a Republican leaning block of southern states due to church going voters mostly, full of Catholics and Baptists, now come an increasing number of bishops confusing the faithful by profligating a false flag— somehow inverting the facts on the ground, saying that an obvious INVASION is really a “refugee” status event, while these bishops ignore current immigration law and its enforcement that has served this nation very well, back when there was the will to implement the law and enforce it.
The US guv has ignored the law and the enforcement through several presidencies, for Chamber of Commerce type of reasons, so naturally Mexicans were free to come and go at will, with no compelling reason to have to register for citizen status.
Today, possibly three generations now know no other country but this one, and now all of a sudden we are going to enforce the law in these sudden evil times, leaving them with no time to register and under threat of deportation.
I get that. It is an awful dilemma foisted on these whole families who have been raised here, educated here, working here faithfully serving their employers.
I can attest that these certain bishops are pushing their view of this INVASION. Meetings are being called in churches to present to the faithful the Catholic teaching on migration. It is to me similar to, or the same as, “community organizing”, and I am deeply concerned.
I am foremost a solid Roman Catholic. I have many Mexican American Catholic friends. None approve of this INVASION, and none are buying into the open border position of these number of bishops.
I have suggested that Republicans are oblivious to the precarious situation they are about to come into with these bishops working against Republican majority in the House of Representatives. This bishop is proof.
America became great because the people who came here wanted nothing to do with Socialism or whatever it was called where they came from. They wanted to be law abiding Americans not Mexicans in American until everything was sucked out of our country. They did not come here to destroy with Socialism but build with their hands.
