WASHINGTON, DC House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) today issued the following statement on U.S. operations in Iraq:
The presidents authorization of airstrikes is appropriate, but like many Americans, I am dismayed by the ongoing absence of a strategy for countering the grave threat ISIS poses to the region. Vital national interests are at stake, yet the White House has remained disengaged despite warnings from Iraqi leaders, Congress, and even members of its own administration. Such parochial thinking only emboldens the enemy and squanders the sacrifices Americans have made. The president needs a long-term strategy one that defines success as completing our mission, not keeping political promises and he needs to build the support to sustain it. If the president is willing to put forward such a strategy, I am ready to listen and work with him. For now, I wish Godspeed to all our men and women participating in these operations.
No fan of Boehner, but this is an appropriate statement.
Not bad. A little tardy but the right idea.
Indirect support for his master. Boehner is a tool.
Talk is cheap.
What astonishing to me is no other country is coming to the aid of the Iraqi’s. The Arab world should know what is coming to their back yard if the ISIS is not stopped.
I hear the Saudi’s are financing this bunch and I do wonder if the royalty there do not know where their heads will be if the ISIS comes visiting?
Are you against the airstrikes?
With or without a strategy, “O” will find a way to bungle this too.
Grave threat of ISIS?
Isn’t this the same Boehner who wanted us to go into Syria in support of these same ISIS folks?
There is no one there worth supporting. We should just bomb everyone who initiates acts of war. That should be our policy. “You start crap... you get taken out”.
I find it interesting that Boehner is even opening his trap.
The Saudis are just trying to bribe the radicals, so they will spare them for as long as possible. They are well aware of what is coming eventually, and have property in the UK and the US to bail out to after their time is up.
He must have had a couple of drinks in him....
A couple?
Half a barrel of premium malt..
lol
You’re right, Boehner is an outstanding voice for conservatism — a fearless leader standing tall ahead of the curve.
When did Boehner get a Boehner?
There is nothing going on in Iraq that wasn’t predicted by Dick Cheney when he served under Bush Sr. and explained why they didn’t take out Saddam Hussein after the Gulf War.
You know ISIS may be THE deal. THE group that comes to control the whole region. Obammy is basically saying... ISIS can have what they want except killing christians (before an election) and attacking Americans (before an election).
