CDC Issues Highest Emergency Alert Amid Ebola Outbreak
NBC News ^ | August 6, 2014 | nbcnews.com

Posted on 08/06/2014 4:57:42 PM PDT by John W

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Wednesday ramped up its response to the expanding Ebola outbreak, a move that frees up hundreds of employees and signals the agency sees the health emergency as a potentially long and serious one.

The CDC’s “level 1 activation” is reserved for the most serious public health emergencies, and the agency said the move was appropriate considering the outbreak’s “potential to affect many lives.” The CDC took a similar move in 2005 in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and again in 2009 during the bird-flu threat.

I never said I was afraid.

Never mentioned the word fear.

If you’re going to debate, putting words in someone’s mouth is not within the scope. Extrapolating my motivations is an opinion and it has no basis in fact.

So let it go.

I am not entitled to an opinion here if it varies from what people think ought to be done, without getting called names, lied about, ganged up on and misquoted.

It’s over.

The last add to the total was less than 100. That’s how you can tell...

That 100 deaths was in 3 days, August 2-4, 2014. The outbreak in total has cost approaching 1000 deaths since it started up in the early spring. That's several months. ~10% of all fatalities occurring in 3 days versus the entire ~160 days of the break out does NOT sound like "leveling off" to me. It sounds exponential.

Well....Since I have not attempted in any way to insult you, I will use a favorite Archie Bunker Quote...

“Stifle yourself!”

How about charity starts at home. We need these missionaries here or haven’t you noticed the Godlessness of this country.

How about these Christian docs stay here and volunteer to help our vets who are dying.

Not the way I see it....It climbed from 500 to 700 and that data was upped by about 100 yesterday, so I see what looks like the top of the trajectory.

But we need time now to see....I could be early but past outbreaks have a similar curve.

What makes this one more pronounced is that it went to more than 2 places simultaneously...and it occurred where travel is more likely, which explains the multiple outbreaks.

Nothing has changed with the disease. It is still the same one.

You did not need to use it.

Your words speak for themselves.

But that’s beside the point. I did not put words in you mouth. I used the word fear and I also used the word concern in the same sentence..

I let you pick which one applied, and you did.

The US military does not have a mission to go in and care for these patients.

THey have a mission to contain it and protect Americans. If they are asked to do a humanitarian run they do so without bringing harm to the US citizens.

it is the exact opposite of bringing these people into the States with active ebola infections.

This is against what the military does. Note that the company who brought them in is private, and the hospital is University. Neither are military.

Our military is not in the business of taking chances with the American public.

Nothing like that is beside my point.

DO NOT put words in my mouth.

That is an offense and it comes under character defamation and it falls under, for my Church teaching, the fifth commandment.

Let this go

We are done.

What was the time frame for the 500 to 700 jump? IOW how long did it take for that jump to occur? One thing missing in all the articles I have read on Ebola is a discussion of time. It is critically important to chart the rate of change of the fatalities and infected, in other words R = de/dt.

That is silly, I don’t know why people talk like that.

If you want to attack Christian missionaries and Evangelical work and spreading the word, try something different.

If you want something done with the VA, then do something politically, don’t blame it on Christians, and don’t tell other people how to live their lives when they are doing just fine and God’s work.

Actually it’s not a vaccine.

It’s a treatment cocktail, a antiviral compound specific to Ebola and Ebola like viruses. So it’s fairly broad spectrum stuff.

A vaccine is given before a illness to build immunity to it naturally.

If effective, it will be used on the next outbreak of Ebola, one might assume.

That just isn’t true, the American military treats patients everywhere and clearly gets involved in disease control, as I have already proven to you.

Our GIs and their almost 40 years of working with and against Ebola in Africa makes them vulnerable to infection, don’t abandon them to die in Africa like you want to do with our Evangelical Christian doctors and nurses.

Remember that many of our military doctors and personnel are Evangelical Christians also.

Here they are helping during the 1976 Ebola problem.
“”“We had a large footprint in Africa,” Cummings said of the Defense Department’s response to the first Ebola cases reported in 1976 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, formerly Zaire. Since that time, the Defense Department has answered numerous calls for assistance from the World Health Organization (WHO), nongovernmental organizations and ministries of heath and defense, he said.””

3-4 weeks I think.....but that’s not all that important.

You can expect the death count to do a jump like that. The last raise was about 2 weeks I think....I don’t have the numbers and dates handy.

In any case, the total infected at about 1600 and the deaths at 800, make the two figures looking like they are catching up with each other or stabilizing..

When you have the infections far outpacing the expected deaths, you know right away that the situation is not stable.

With the figure now starting to look normal or in a expected range for a aftermath of a outbreak. The outbreak may be turning the corner.

So...how many ways do I have to say this before you understand what I am saying.

Are you aware that the U.S. Army uses Ebola in America?

Long before your Christians came back home?

August, 2013, U.S. News and World Report

“Ebola Treatment May Be On the Horizon”

“”U.S. Army medical researchers may have found an emergency treatment for the deadly Ebola virus, which is welcome news to biodefense researchers studying ways in which such hemorrhagic fever viruses jump from non-primate species to human beings and how to treat them.

Using antibodies derived from specially engineered tobacco plants, Army medical researchers were able to develop a treatment that provided complete protection for monkeys shortly after they were exposed to Ebola. But, more importantly and promising, the treatment helped even after Ebola symptoms had developed, according to the study in Science Translational Medicine.””
