“We can’t waste the spotlight. Time is short. Change is needed. And women are smarter than men,” Obama said during the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit to a laughing audience, according to White House Press Pool reports.

She continued, “And the men can’t complain because they are outnumbered today.”

Perhaps. A higher percentage of women than men have average IQs, while more men than women have very high and very low IQs. Bell curves for men and women have slightly different shapes, like this:



Not something to be talked about, however. Here are some comments by Steve Sailer on the Larry Summers [ President Emeritus and Charles W. Eliot University Professor of Harvard University] controversy:

.....As a bell curve aficionado, Summers noted a widely observed tendency: "It does appear that on many, many different human attributes -- height, weight, propensity for criminality, overall IQ, mathematical ability, scientific ability -- there is relatively clear evidence that whatever the difference in means … there is a difference in the standard deviation and variability of a male and a female population."

In other words, as any woman could testify, there are more stupid men than women; likewise, at least in math and spatial reasoning, there are more brilliant men than women.

Summers stated, "… if one is talking about physicists at a top twenty-five research university, one is not talking about people who are two standard deviations above the mean. [In a normal bell curve, only one out of 44 individuals is that much above average.] And perhaps it's not even talking about somebody who is three standard deviations above the mean [or one out of 741]. But it's talking about people who are three and a half [one out of 4,299], four standard deviations above the mean [one in 31,574] …"

Yep..that’s about the gist of it, generally. I don’t mind who knows I’m terrible at math. My husband’s good with it, though. We’re just different.

I think, though, that applies only to conservative women. Liberal shemales are as dumb as a bag of hair.

Men and women have very similar mean intelligence, but men tend to have greater variance. One consequence of this difference is that there are more very smart and very dumb men, whereas more women are clustered near the mean.

How about a female who's also a world-famous actress? Hedy Lamarr. Proximity fuze and spread-spectrum communications work. Brilliant woman. Too bad her work was so classified she didn't get credit until two decades later.

I can honestly say I agree with everything you just said and I am staying OUT of this debate in a serious matter.

Another point I have to watch is to make sure my young son understands the “men are idiots and losers” concepts on TV, movies, etc...is not true.

We are always introducing him to great men of history who knew what it meant to be a man. And of course the men in his life are the best examples.

Technically she is right. Women do score just a tiny bit higher than men on average. Not enough to matter tho.
Interestingly, Men are tremendously over represented in the highest levels of IQ.
And yes, Whites score significantly higher than Blacks on IQ tests.

Men are also overrepresented in the lowest level IQs. The main difference is really the standard deviation — essentially:

Well, the x-ray? Madame Curie? But that’s the only one I can think of at the top of my head. Of course, women weren’t often in a position to make those discoveries.

But I also believe that there are differences in male and female brains; perhaps men’s brains are more suited to that type of innovation, etc.

Plus, socially, women are (on some level, at least), looking for a suitable mate/father of their children, during the prime years, whereas men are more focused on their careers or even, perhaps, their hobbies, which could lead to innovation (I’m thinking of Bill Gates, etc.).

I’m just rambling. Your question is a thoughtful one, which likely has many answers or explanations.

Interesting... I can certainly see that a woman would invent the washing machine. What a time saver and certainly something that would preoccupy women.

Windshield wipers—certainly increases safety, more of a concern for women/mothers (in the sense that moms, myself included, tend to be a bit overprotective when little ones want to test their boundaries physically, while dads will hold the babies and play airplane, encourage them to climb, etc. :)

It’s an interesting topic. :)
