....decorated WNBA veteran Becky Hammon has never had the experience of shattering a backboard with a dunk. She's busting through the glass ceiling instead. The San Antonio Spurs hired Hammon as an assistant coach on Tuesday, making her the first full-time, paid female assistant on an NBA coaching staff...

If your country rejected you, would you go elsewhere to perform at your highest level?
In the NBA, a gut who is here this week is gone another team next week. Most I would not associate with no matter how much money they have. There are a few exceptions, but the league is mostly thugs.
Which Spur is a street thug? Which Trailblazer? Which Thunder?
I can't think of one. Can you?
For a piece of metal? Good grief...NO!!!!!
Sorry to step on your toes, but maybe three or four teams have guys who stay out of the news. The league as a whole is far from being model citizens.
Since there are no thugs on the Spurs team....I'm sorry, what was your point again?
Sorry to step on your toes...
Please do not play the victim card at FreeRepublic.
sigh.
okay.
well, isn’t that what is great about freedom? :) you choose not to do so, she chose to do so.
By the way, according to this article, she did not end her citizenship in the USA. She obtained dual citizenship.

Have you seen and heard the players of San Antonio? I am no fan AT ALL of the NBA, but when they played Miami for the championship, the local news would carry interviews.....unlike the Miami thugs, the San Antonio players sounded fairly intelligent and sophisticated....smarter than your average NBA player, imho.
My thoughts as well.
Not publicity. Apparently she and Pops go way back. Pops is willing to take publicity hits, and even fines from the league, to put his team in a position to win. He isn’t going to weaken the team for PR.
If you’re going to devalue the Olympic medal as just “a piece of medal” then you should be honest and devalue the whole even as just sport. Countries don’t really win or lose anything in international sports, it really just effect their uniforms and available teammates. One didn’t want her, another she was eligible for did, so she went the team that wanted her and won.
If you think there’s no problem with suiting up against your own country, then I don’t know what to say.
She didn’t suit up against her country, it’s JUST sports. Nothing happens if “our” team wins or loses, there’s no effect on the world. It’s a game. You’re trying to make it sound like she took place in armed combat against American troops, THAT would be suiting up against her country, but that’s not what happened.
Again, be consistent. If you’re going to say it’s just a chunk of metal admit it’s just sport. If you’re going to insist sports matter, then the medal matters. You can have it either way, but you can’t have it both ways.
"laotzu" - chicom? OK I'm getting it now. You were yao Ming's "girlfriend", so you have to defend the NBA.
Knock off the language.
How was that Bieber concert?
