Its unlikely that United Mine Workers of America president Cecil Roberts thought he would be arrested protesting the energy policies of the very politician his union supported in 2008. But things have come full circle for coal miners, who now see President Obamas climate agenda threatening their livelihoods.
Roberts and other UMWA members were arrested Thursday marching through Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, towards the federal building the Environmental Protection Agency was holding field hearings for a new rule that could very well force more coal mines and plants to shut down.

It’s not like they weren’t warned.
Zactly....
Fraud, in my opinion. I don’t think it would have mattered had the unions turned against him. I don’t expect anything resembling a real election this year either, I think we have entered the era of banana republic elections fraud. Actually he was not apparently legally elected in 2008 because he appears to have failed to meet the requirements to be on the ballot in some states.
And yes, I speak from personal experience after working with them.
No, I won't volunteer to help the “party” ever again.
My party is TEA, I am a conservative, and the Republicans need to clean up their organization.
Fold the tattered big circus tent and stand proudly on the party platform.
Republicans might win over more voters that way.
As it stands now, I assume the R stands for RINO, untill convinced otherwise.
“...My party is TEA, I am a conservative, and the Republicans need to clean up their organization...”
Well, ma’am, you and I aren’t all that far apart. We’re on the same page.
I’m just sick of losing potential votes to the communist dems because some folks on “our” side are too damned lazy or incompetent to even TRY to reach them.
I’m no GOP cheerleader. They piss me off and disappoint me every time.
That ship sailed for the last time in 2012.
“support for RINOS”?
I don’t. Just because someone has an “R” after their name doesn’t mean they’re Conservative.
My point is, if there is a group of people that one party is dumping all over, and they formerly supported that party, then the other party - or parties - should be actively engaged in garnering that support. Seems like common sense.
I say all disgruntled Democrats should show their displeasure with their party leadership by honestly declaring themselves Independents.
It would certainly cut down on the RINO divisions for real Republicans, if they(disgruntled Democrats) became even partially politically aware.
But I guess you think that's just way complicated and too harsh for the fragile potential new RINOs to deal with, right?
“..I say all disgruntled Democrats should show their displeasure with their party leadership by honestly declaring themselves Independents...”
I agree. Good luck with that, though.
“...But I guess you think that’s just way complicated and too harsh for the fragile potential new RINOs to deal with, right?...”
Nope. All I’m saying is do what Ronald Reagan did. You’ve heard of Reagan Democrats, I’m sure. He won in a landslide - twice - because he was able to get through to the disgruntled. And the RINOs in the GOP blueblood club did all they could to undermine him as well.
If anybody had cared to do a little research they would see that the last Democrat presidential candidate to carry West Virginia was Clinton in ‘96.
This is not news. This information is widely available on something called the "internet" (Which Algore invented. Ask him.) and can be learned by the simple expedient of using a search engine. For some odd reason, many people on this forum (perhaps even a majority) refuse to educate themselves. Those of us who don't have our heads up our butts must shoulder the responsibility of educating them.
What does that have to do with the union?
The bashing on this thread seems aimed at all West Virginin voters and not just the UMWA. The majority of voters in that state have learned their lesson and I doubt the Democrats will ever carry another presidential election there. Too many are confusing the union with the rank & file union members. West Virginia is not a right to work state.
To be frank, the membership needs to step up and hammer its leadership for failure to represent.
Also, these arrests happened in Pittsburgh PA. That’s adjacent to WV geographically, but not politically.
Well, if you mean that 0bama carried Pennsylvania twice and West Virginia zero times, then that is correct. Also, since the UMWA is headquartered in Pittsburgh, it was way more convenient for Cecil Roberts than Charleston or Beckley would have been.
