City Councilwoman Debi Rose said she backs a call by Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, her fellow Democrat, that New York house children who are entering the U.S. illegally from Central America.
But Republican Councilmen Vincent Ignizio and Steven Matteo disagreed.
Ms. Rose (D-North Shore) said many of the children "are fleeing situations more dangerous than Iraq or Afghanistan."

"I represent a district of mostly middle class homeowners," Matteo said. "They pay the city's bills but all too often it is their needs that are overlooked. It is my responsibility above all others to put their interests first."
Other borough Republicans have also rejected Ms. Mark-Viverito's call.
"Although it is heartbreaking what these children crossing the border are experiencing, if the city has the ability to house people in need, then it should be used for the record amount of homeless veterans and displaced Sandy victims before anyone else," said Rep. Michael Grimm (R-Staten Island/Brooklyn).
Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis (R-East Shore/Brooklyn) also pointed to the Sandy victims and homeless vets.
Rockefeller Centre sounds perfect.
Please take them so we don’t have to run them out of where I live.
City Council thinks this is aew batch of “WOPS”.

Anyone who says we should shelter these illegals should be required to individually shelter at least 2 in his/her home.
100% at his/her own expense.
No subsidies.
Either that or STFU.
Only in NYC would housing disease laden children that speak no English be considered a good idea.
Why Rockefeller Center?
Iconic and close to the media.
Well, it’s close to NBC.
It’s a gorgeous building and doesn’t need messing up. Now if Susan Sarandon wants to take them in downtown and the citizens of Central Park West would like them foisted upon themselves, as already suggested, I could support that. But no messing up of our beautiful architectural treasures!!!
Put a bunch in the UN HQ too.
Again, that’s a spectacular building and innocent of all that goes on within its walls, lol!!! Stuff them in the UN apartment buildings (mostly unimpressive buildings) and watch the low life UN employees squeal!
They are part of a natural unchanged art form, that needs exposure on the early morning show by Matt Liar, Savannah Guppie, and Al “Da Man”.
Or Gracie Mansion.
“Only in NYC would housing disease laden children that speak no English be considered a good idea.”
It isn’t only NYC; this is happening in other areas where taxpaying whites have fled and left the unassimilated permanent underclass and their black market economy. To keep their schools open/teachers employed with state & federal aid, these places either take in illegals or close up shop (and I don’t expect them to do the latter - there are too many government workers’/paid Democrats’ jobs on the line).
Look for most dying states to fling open their doors to these (and any other) illegals they can draw in; the “poverty industry” is the only industry left in many high-tax areas.
And the Guggenheim and Frick....
This after HHS sent Governor Hailey a letter saying no criminal aliens would be sent here (sorry, no link).
Now the pubbies are raising hell about this. I expect their lamentations will fall on deaf ears.
“We’ve had 350 of them dumped here in South Carolina. Except no one will say where they are.”
If these really are young adults, follow the litter and police reports.
The big question is...who the f**k is trafficking in children? And it applies to both sides of the border.
Before PizzaGate, I used to be moved to tears for the poor refugee orphans. NOW...I get mad as hell.
