As part of its mission to protect the Homeland, the DHS has been busy seizing imported vehicles that dont comply with safety and CO2 regulations.
Jennifer and Bill Brinkley were satisfied that their $60,000 dollar purchase of a Land Rover Defender on eBay complied with regulations because it fell into the exemption category of a vehicle 25 years or older.

Typical bureaucrat response: we dont have enough to do so lets go out and find some potential violations to enforce. As Beria told Stalin, "Show me the man, and I will show you the crime."

A story about illegal gray market land rovers crops up about every 4 months. Usually it is ICE destroying them at the point of entry.
This one slipped through, but that great database, Ebay, enabled our gooberment to save us from the likes of Lucas and those evil Morris Garage minions.
My biggest question is who makes 60,000 dollar purchases on ebay from anonymous vendors?

That pic reminded me of this
video clip:
Fear is freedom.
Control is liberty.
Contradiction is truth.
That is the reality of this world!
Listen well, you pigs in human clothing,
and submit to that reality!

Except it wasnt ICE..it was another group. The articles didnt mention ICE.
"Vincent Picard, a spokesman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said authorities believe the cars were unlawfully brought into the U.S.
"ICE Homeland Security Investigations special agents served court-ordered seizure warrants on approximately 40 Land Rovers in various locations around the country," he said in an email. "The seizures are being made pursuant to an ongoing criminal investigation involving the unlawful importation of the vehicles from Great Britain. The Land Rovers, which do not meet federal safety or emission standards, cannot be lawfully operated in the United States.""

And reading a little further, it seems there was one guy importing these illegally, filing off the VIN numbers from the engine blocks and putting new VINs on. That sounds like an international stolen luxury car ring, rather than just an EPA issue.

authorities believe the cars were unlawfully brought into the U.S. Conversly, back in the mid-80's there was a rash of car thefts involving late-model Buick Century's where chop ships cloned them in to Grand Nationals to be shipped to the Mid East and South Amreica.

According to Wiki, Land Rover didn’t use the “Defender” name until late 1990.
In the video at the link, the owner says the vehicle is a 1985 Defender, which is imposible, if the Wiki article is accurate.
Apparently, the VIN number was changed, which is illegal, but this possibility was conveniently omitted from the text of the linked article.
In any event, anyone who spends $60K on a Land Rover needs psychiatric help.
