I gotta call BS on this survey. I deliberately tried to be as Conservative as I could taking the survey. Here’s the recommendations: 70% Austin, 65% Atlanta, 60% Denver, 60% Las Vegas, 60% Seattle. Lots of conservative cities on that list :)

In the Fall of 2003 I decided I wanted to move from Louisville, KY to a more southerly place, mostly to get away from bitterly cold weather and to live out in the county, having lived in subdivisions all my life.

I looked at Orlando, FL, Valdosta, GA and Savannah, GA. (I had various reasons for choosing those places that I won’t bore you with.)

Each of these places had several attributes that soured me on them.

In December of 2003 I came across http://findyourspot.com/ Their quiz is very comprehensive. After answering all the (many!) questions, it recommended 10 places I might want to live.

Number 4: Valdosta, GA
Number 3: Orlando, FL
Number 2: Savannah, GA
Number 1: Aiken, SC

Aiken SC? I’d never heard of the place. Did a bunch of online research and went on a road trip in February.

Long story short, I bought acreage outside of Aiken in June, had a house built and moved in in September.

This September I’ll start my 12th year here. I could not be happier. This place has everything I need and then some.

I did the same thing taking the quiz and concluded that there were NO conservative cities on their list. I guess Austin would at least keep me in Texas and some of the suburbs there are quite conservative.

You did a great job of researching your move and its great that it proved to be the right choice!
