Ah, another glorious moment in Americas drug war.
Three San Antonio Police officers are being investigated for possibly using excessive force, after a May 20 incident in west San Antonio left a man with injuries to his face, skull and neck.
Roger Carlos was in the 10600 block of Westover Hills Boulevard taking photos of a building that will soon be home to his wifes medical practice, when he was approached by three officers around 2:30 p.m.
The officers were identified as an undercover drug task force officer and two SAPD SWAT members.
According to an SAPD incident report released to I-Team, the officers had been pursuing a suspect nearby who was wanted on a felony warrant.

All three of them started beating me on the head, said Carlos, who still showed visible signs of the beating when he spoke with KENS 5 weeks after the incident.
It was unbelievable. I couldnt believe it was happening to me.
Carlos said he was struck about 50 times, even though he complied with the officers instructions and did not fight back.
Shortly after being handcuffed and explaining to officers that he owned the property, a fourth officer approached and said the suspect was in custody nearby.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus says it was a case of mistaken identity, ... From the report that Ive read, from the photo that I saw and from your description, Ive not seen anything at this point that would indicate to me that anything out of order happened.

I think the police dept. just picked up the tab for the building remodel.
I agree with the Chief:
When they kicked the as$ of this innocent man, NOTHING out of the ordinary happened.
Mao said guerrillas as like fish, and The People are the ocean. That’s why those commies always tried to stay in tight with the people —so they had hiding places. And that’s what US forces also constantly learn; stay as much as possible on the good side of the townsfolk, cuz they may rat out the guerrillas to you.
OK so if US cops are TOTALLY INDIFFERENT to what the citizens think of them, then
WHERE are they getting their intel?
Because THEY ARE getting it from SOMEWHERE.
And if you know what STINGRAY is, then you’ll understand why they don’t actually care what you think of them —because they don’t HAVE to care, see?
If he has a dog, he’s lucky he didn’t bring it with him.
Yes office, until I find you with no one around to come to your aid, lets see how tough you are all alone...
Was he Photographing Obama’s Refugee Camps, if so he was lucky to get away with his life...
A perfect accompaniment to your poster. In a nutshell, that's the sorry-ass state of what passes for law enforcement in America.
I think some of these “officers” are looking for private citizens to start giving them a “talking to” when they are alone and away from their buddies...
Unbelievable.
Police abuse their authority all the time. And I don’t know what the WaPo is doing reporting this, what their angle is, but, really?
I don’t think San Antonio has a bad rep for this - out of control police business.
This guy is wandering around a very swanky hotel district taking pictures of s building.
Maybe the cops were ridiculous and brutal and way out of order.
But... this guy’s wife is a doctor and he doesn’t know enough post 9 11 not to go around taking pix of buildings.
It’s something we’re trained to not do. wanted to take photos of some visiting airplanes once on base and hub came tearing over, ‘no, don’t do that, the SPs will be all over us’.
I don’t know.
An McManus isn’t known for being a jerk as far as I know
Well, I don’t know about this. Plus, could we give SA a break, the overrun border is right there.
I mean, everyone believes this guy right off?
If his story is true, and it could be, it happens, but, he’s taken at his word right off?
I watched around 5 minutes of one of the cop shows yesterday.
They showed two cops restraining a guy. He was obeying their orders like he lay down when they said but he wasn’t doing exactly what they said, at least not for a few seconds. I doubt he really understood what they were saying.
He lay down as soon as they told him to but then propped himself up on his side but was still lying down. After being told several times to lie completely flat he did. Then one cop cuffs him while another puts his boot on the guys neck.
If someone did that to me, there would be a very good chance that he would open his car door and find a rattlesnake in it. If not that, something else.
If this is what they show on TV, just how much worse are they when it is not shown?
Not really.
Ain’t no sense in bringing out the SWAT Team if nobody dies or maimed!
Because, Mr. Balko is a author of note who covers the police state and the death of civil liberties.
So we can’t take pictures of buildings????
Its something were trained to not do.
Wow.
“Rise of the Warrior Cop”.
OK, well, Mr. Balko will have a good story here if after it goes through and we hear at least another rendition of the story, it turns out to be a fact that this guy was brutalized.
Could be. In the meantime, it sells copy.
You can take photos of buildings post 9/11. Of course there could be some buildings in some areas that could attract more attention but that shouldn’t be a factor in this case.
Assuming this all true and there’s no reason to believe it isn’t the cops were 100% out of line.
I guess everyone needs training on how to lay spread eagle
on the ground while you are getting the crap beat out of you.
