You can understand President Obama's current political problems -- and how those problems could make things very tough for his party in this fall's midterm election -- in a single word. And that word is "competence".
Obama was elected in 2008 on a stated promise that he would restore competence to government. He pitched himself as the antidote to "Heck of a job, Brownie" and the Bush years, the person who would always put the most qualified candidate in every job in his Administration. That the basic functioning of government would never be in question.
Almost six years on from that election, however, Obama is faltering badly on the competence question and, in so doing, badly imperiling not only his ability to enact any sort of second term agenda but also Democrats' chances this fall. A series of events -- from the VA scandal to the ongoing border crisis to the situation in Ukraine to the NSA spying program -- have badly undermined the idea that Obama can effectively manage the government.

I agree, McCain would have been a disaster too, but Romney would have been been a BILLION times better.
All hail King Putt, the emperor has no clothes!
He’s not incompetent. He’s accomplishing everything he set out to do. He’s evil!
He said he was going to fundamentally transform the nation and he's done a remarkably effective job so far.
The mistake people make is to ASS-U-ME that they and obama see the same problems or see them the same way or that they share the same American point of view to solve them.
Adjust the point of view until cause and effect line up, regardless of the words being said, and it all makes sense.
Keep in mind that Romney would've been President if:
Instead of backing off on Benghazi he had destroyed Obama with the issue.
Not been afraid to campaign for votes in challenged areas. If he'd gotten just 15% of that vote (the outliers) it would've meant a few states.
Had been as aggressive against Obama as he was against his primary challenges. Was it latent racism and fear of being labelled as such?
Disowned Romneycare.
Come out STRONG about protecting our borders. It being listed as an "issue" wasn't enouth.
Spelled out an actual plan for small businesses to emerge again. His corporate raider resume did not inspire voters to change sides.
I supported Romney, one reason being cultural decency returning to the WH would've been awesome. But I'm not sure he "gets it" what middle America is looking for.
Good summation and then he went rogue golfing, fundraising, vacationing and promoting his LGBT lifestyle cause and throwing fund raising pot(+) parties in our former White House. May the devil call him home in a lightning bolt flash before more damage.
Hire a rookie to do the job - what could possibly go wrong?
Wrap together affirmative action and on-the-job training and you get OBAMA!!!
I agree with your summation
Booting him out of office would have negatively impacted his self esteem.
We all know it would be racist to do that.
