STUNNING DEVELOPMENT: DC Police Chief Lanier just told force not to arrest a person who can legally carry a gun in DC or any state.
More -- DC police chief using guidance from AG -- grants full reciprocity for all open and concealed carry from others states.
it ain’t gonna work out this way. it’s just simply not going to happen.
it also sets the stage for a great false flag crisis to be exploited by queen obama.
D.C. police were told Sunday not to arrest people for carrying handguns on the street in the wake of a judges ruling that overturned the citys principal gun-control law.
However, the D.C. attorney generals office said it would seek a stay of the ruling while the city decides whether to appeal.
In an order approved by Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier, police were told that District residents are permitted to carry pistols if the weapons are registered. Those who had not registered their handguns could be charged on that ground, the instruction said.
The number of registered pistols is thought to be low.
Laniers instructions to police also said that residents of other jurisdictions without felony records would not be charged under the ban on carrying pistols.
National Constitutional carry is my moment!
Ford's Theatre is in D.C.
Lincoln and Garfield were, Kennedy in Dallas and McKinley in Buffalo. Only Kennedy was shot by a rifle AFAIK.
I wonder if the WaPo will report on the dropping crime rate there.
I had to reread that three times to be sure I was reading it right!
Next move - EO from that guy with the pen?
This is a bizarre circumstance where Pennsylvania doesn’t honor my CCW permits, but Washington DC does all of a sudden. Wow.
Be aware that any firearm you carry into Washington DC has to comply with existing restrictions regarding magazine capacity limits and various approved model types, or whatever DC has codified into law. This is a panic move on the DC police’s part, but they will fiercely enforce the laws they do have.
Excellent points on the approved models and magazine limits that remain in place in DC, hope nobody on our side gets hung out to dry on those technicalities of DC law.
They have a hollow point ammo ban too.
If it were me thinking of carrying in DC, and it wouldn’t be since I have no desire to travel east of the Rockies, I’d carry a simple snubby revolver and plain lead bullets. Something like a Chiefs Special that just disappears in an IWB holster.
I’d also fully expect that ‘wanding’ people with a handheld metal detector could turn commonplace all over Washington DC.
Good luck to everyone who plans to start carrying in Washington DC. Carrying in DC — especially Open Carry, which is the stone cold stupidest thing I think anyone could do right now — basically makes the CCW’er become the first little black girl in the Deep South to attend an integrated elementary school with a Federal court ruling backing her up. Only in this case, the jeering enraged crowd hurling epithets and trying to provoke an incident are the DC police, city attorneys, and various Federal LEAs that take orders from the White House.
Bet you a tuna fish sandwich there will be some sort of provoked incident that occurs tomorrow in DC, no telling from what quarter it may appear.
Maryland owns the Potomac from high tide.
Yes.
correct! i’m a Va resident, all my life, i have never informed an officer of my permit or weapon when pulled over or gone through traffic check and have never been asked to see either. YET but once they run your tag or license number they know you have concealed permit, and so far for me, after officer finds out, they usually say have a good day!
Mike
(PS: maybe the rear of my truck being loaded up with pro 2A and pro gun and ANTI liberal stickers has something to do with it) although i do believe that gives LIB leo reason to mess with you also, but i take the chance!
there is no “gun registration” in Va only background check is done when purchasing and the ATF and the gun store by federal law are SUPPOSE to dispose of that info after purchase, has DC ever had “legal” carry? then may have required a “registration” for owners of firearms
Mike
Wow!
And about time.
HOWEVER.
I have frequent need to travel through or stay overnight in NY-NJ-MD, NY does not issue nonresident permits by official policy (there is no application process), NJ and MD do not issue nonresident permits by unofficial policy (NJ and MD have an application process but none are ever granted).
In addition to liberating DC, this decision ALSO ruled that refusal by DC to grant nonresident permits was a violation of a fundamental right to travel.
Although it was a District Court and the decision only pertains to DC, if that ruling were upheld by a higher court it would force NY-NJ-MD to grant nonresident permits on the same grounds.
This would be MUCH better than national reciprocity, because under any national CCW that could pass this Congress and be signed by Obama, the free states (like mine) would have many more restrictions than they do now.
I see a Trayvon Martin incident in some thugs future.
The WashPost says the order is that DC residents whose guns are legally registered in DC may carry.
Agreed. Let’s not celebrate too soon. We still don’t have mature people running the government.
