US flights to Israel to resume after brief ban. Will European carriers follow suit?
The US national aviation authority has lifted a ban on American flights to Israel, but warned of a "very fluid situation" amid intense fighting with Palestinians in nearby Gaza, AFP reports Thursday.
"Hamas does have rockets that can reach Ben Gurion airport... although the accuracy of their rockets does remain limited," State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf said.
Israel had warned of the economic impact of the ban by many world airlines and said that it would be a win for Hamas, who hailed the suspension as a "great victory."
Delta, United and US Airways all cancelled their scheduled flights for Wednesday, as did a raft of European carriers including Germany's Lufthansa, Air France, Poland's LOT and others. It is unclear as of now whether or not they will follow suit in lifting the ban.

Netanyahu calls human rights forum decision a travesty; US envoy says it lacks balance and may undermine ceasefire efforts.
The UN Human Rights Council on Wednesday launched a probe into the conflict in Gaza, backing calls by the Palestinians to hold Israel to account despite fierce opposition from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
Netanyahus media office slammed the decision as a travesty that ignored human rights violations by Hamas terrorists. This investigation by a kangaroo court is a foregone conclusion, his office said.
The United States was the sole member to vote against. The 17 abstentions were by the councils European members, plus Japan and South Korea.
Manor, the Israeli ambassador, vowed that Israel would destroy Hamass military infrastructure.
However, the Gaza residents are not our enemies. Israel is fully committed to international law, he said.

The USA is the ONLY MEMBER to vote against it. And furthermore, as Israel constantly states and does, it says that those Palestinians in Gaza are NOT the enemy, despite the false accusations by Israel’s enemies that they are. Israel makes it abundantly clear that it’s Hamas that they are after and NOT Palestinian civilians. As the Israeli Ambassador says, Israel abides by International Law (and thus does NOT commit war crimes)!
... LOL ... look at my Freeper page, the answer should be obvious, which is no ...
I’m a very long-time supporter of Israel, going back over 50 years, and I constantly dispel the FALSE ACCUSATIONS that Israel targets Palestinian civilians, which Israel itself constantly fights against, including just yesterday in the UN Human Rights Council, quoted above.
If you want to post documented news articles from whatever reliable news agency you choose, in Israel or elsewhere, please do so and show where the documented information in any of these already-posted articles is incorrect. That’s what we do here on Free Republic.
We don’t depend on an “electronic personality” who could be sitting in Mama’s basement (as you very well could be) but from reliable and documented news sources. That’s the entire purpose of the “posting of articles” on Free Republic ... you see ... :-) ...
I’ll look forward to the time you post articles without your editorial comments, promoting Hamas propaganda.
I comment in support of what Israel itself says, and against the propaganda that Hamas disseminates, that Israel targets Palestinian civilians. Israel goes all over the world to let everyone know that the Palestinians are not their enemies, but Hamas is.
There are people who want to go against what Israel maintains and has said, and those posters (and other people) want to make the Palestinian civilians the enemy to kill or forcefully remove. Israel doesn’t do that and does not intend to do that.
