Prime Minister Tony Abbott may send up to 100 Australian Federal Police to help secure the MH17 crash site, with bodies still believed to be scattered in the area.
Mr Abbott yesterday sought advice from his security, police and defence chiefs for options to help secure the crash site and the likely outcome is believed to be an AFP-led taskforce ....
The AFP officers would likely be accompanied by a special team of Australian troops to assist a Dutch-led multinational taskforce, after Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte reportedly asked Mr Abbott if Australia would consider helping....
It is yet to be decided if the taskforce would be armed and if it would include military personnel specifically designed to protect in a war zone.
'As long as it's possible that there are any Australian remains out there we owe it to the families to do our utmost to recover them,' Mr Abbott said.
The government is considering options to create a safe environment for a proper forensic search, which could involve a cordon to bar anyone except investigators from the crash site.
'We need a large team conducting a forensic search, a proper scouring of the site to identify anything that may have been missed up until now,' Mr Abbott said....

Aren’t those the guys that speak Australian? Or was that Austrian.
A de-fanged, de-clawed, spayed and neutered American presidency, military, Congress, and border has at least had the effect of disclosing who has any backbone left in the western world. We are going to need these people very badly in the very near future if any portion of our society is to survive. It just depends upon whether or not they decide we are worth saving.
A bit late to secure anything! Seems more like a job for the French or the EU or the United Nations. lol
Really? How are you going to get past the Russian navy in the Black Sea and land at Servasterpol?
Just sayin'
The Dutch blew their first encounter with the Thugs of Donetsk and proved that they are not up to the task.
The Aussies want a shot at them now —
I would recommend that the Thugs of Donetsk get busy and “”find” the rest of the bodies in that morgue in Donetsk where they whisked them away to and they best not be in urns.
Now, with Kiev rapidly losing what aircraft it can convince someone to man, maybe their tune on a truce will change. Especially with more and more people in Western Ukraine fed up with the Kiev Coup Kiddies.
Figure the Aussies are willing to fight their way through Kiev's troops to do their job ?
The Aussies just might consider your threat a challenge —
Not being obstinate, just realistic.
JMHO
I think the other question is:
How badly do the bad actors of Donetsk want to see an army of Aussies in their backyards???
If they are holding any bodies back they best “find” them and release them.
As a whole, they behaved as if they were at best dull normal to begin with with so some worse off than that isn't really shocking. In the past month it seems those who aren't dull normal took over here and there, but far from everywhere in every tribe.
We also have particularly strong relationships with the Dutch in particular - with the obvious exception of the United Kingdom, we are probably closer to Holland than any other nation in Europe.
Why? Historically, it's because the Dutch East Indies were just off our northern coast. In the days of Empire, this part of the world was mostly Dutch and British.
And this has lead to a close relationship - during the Second World War, when the Netherlands fell to Germany, parts of the Royal Netherlands Navy fought on alongside the Royal Australian Navy (HMAS Abraham Crijnssen was even formally commissioned into the RAN from 1942-1943, when the Dutch couldn't man her by themselves) and once the war in the Pacific began after Pearl Harbour, the initial supreme allied command for the area was ABDACOM (American-British-Dutch-Australian Command).
More recently, for a significant amount of time during the War in Afghanistan, Australian and Dutch troops were serving very closely together - a lot of Australian troops were operating out of Dutch bases in Uruzgan province.
The point is, our relationship with the Dutch is probably our closest outside of those with the US, or the major Commonwealth countries. This is not just a matter of being friendly with Europe - we're much closer to the Dutch than we are to most of the rest of Europe. They are among our oldest and closest allies.
I can’t see this getting out of control quickly. /S
Sounds like you're siding with the KGB's star pupil,Vlad Putin.
Siding with no one. None of them. Just looking at reality is all.
Fine with me if you don't see it that way but having someone think I'm a big fan of Putin is just funny. Kid stuff, shout, "PUTINISTA" all you like. Doing so is an is an indication of someone who can't shed their preconception glasses and not liking anyone who doesn't have a pair just like them
Kiev could have nipped all this in the bud with some common sense and Candyman even got the coup a second bite at the apple. He said he was going to negotiate, in fact, with few if any requirements before he sat down at the table.
Next day IMF said if Ukraine couldn't get a handle on the Southeast they'd reconsider their loans. Candyman announced the "ATO" operation and said he'd only negotiate under strict circumstances.
Someone or a lot of someones other than Putin lit a fire under Ukraine and Putin took advantage of it. The whole who Western media cheering on the coup just like it has several others recently speaks volumes about who. Why? Decide for yourself. I personally think most of the reasons people like aren't the reason. If they were there would already be boots on the ground from European countries or the UN. The real reason remains to be seen but it'll come out because coups always fall apart and someone escapes to spill the beans. Just a matter of time.
It all comes down to Ukraine thugs replacing other Ukraine thugs and the IMF calling the shots in return for looking the other way. Not your buddy Vlad. And yeah, your buddy, because if you think he's the Devil incarnate, you give him a lot more thought than I do. Vlad got what he wanted and if dull normal folks in Southeast Ukraine filtered everything through their preconception that he wanted the whole ball of wax, they were dead wrong. Some of them, now physically dead wrong.
Demand Russia intervene to get some hostages, Russia very openly sends a guy who has to negotiate and beg, and when he succeeds tout it as proof Russia controls everything.
Demand Russia secure the border, call it a new threat when they send 12000 guys spread out over hot-spots on a very long border.
Demand Russia remove those 12000 troops, yell about them reopening the border when they're pulled back.
Fly SU-25 air strikes in the shadow of a commercial airliner when you know your enemy has Gadfly systems and blame Russia for the results?
Do they fly Ukraine civilian airliners within Ukraine into that area?
Come on. No matter what happens the propaganda yo-yo just keep on spinning.
Wars attract reporters like white on rice but they're all busy with Fashion now?
Why do the Times of India and newspapers in Japan have more solid impartial information and thinking on the subject than anyone in the West puts out?
Angela Merkel balks at going along with His Majesty King Barry I and a wave of articles about her being a Putin pawn appears?
The only country that has every dared to say it would defend Christians worldwide and could do so, is the world boogyman just when ISIS fires up a huge new offensive in Iraq and no one gives it a second though in the media?
(well, Pat Buchanan but he always liked a dictator or two just like G. Gorden Liddy liked a cold Nazi with his warm beer)
Is that all a coincidence?
The Maidan crowd made a deal with one Devil too many; Separatists have nothing their devil wants.
If Putin wanted Southeast Ukraine he'd already have it.
He took what he wanted the rest he doesn't care about unless it's over the transom.
Things change, my opinion may. As of now, all JMHO. What's yours?
